Blinds around buildings

One of the final stages of the construction of any building is the device of the blind area. This is not only a way to protect the structure from rain water, but the foundations from subsidence, but also an important element of the improvement of the adjacent territory. Usually, the device blinds begin after finishing the facade or after finishing the plinth.

In order for the stage to justify its main purpose, it must be made of waterproof material in compliance with certain rules. Correct its device provides a reduction in the load on the waterproofing of the underground part of the building and, thus, prolongs its service life, so it is not worth putting it off for a long time.

Any blind area requires preliminary preparation of the soil. Regardless of the material it is supposed to cover, the soil must be cleaned of the vegetative layer and carefully compacted. This is especially important for a house built on the heaving ground.

The device of the blind area of the house includes the device of an underlayer and a covering. The underlying layer (for it you can use sand, clay, screenings, small gravel) is necessary to create a smooth, compacted base for subsequent laying of the coating. The type of the underlying layer is selected depending on the type of the upper material. The thickness of the layer is usually 20 cm. For coating, concrete, small cobblestone, asphalt, paving slabs are used.

Correct device blind area around the house

In the trench around the house, sand is poured and carefully rammed or poured with water to seal. Above the sand is poured gravel, gravel or broken bricks. This pillow is necessary for the filtration of moisture, which can penetrate through the capillaries of the upper layer and, freezing, destroy the blind. Please note that construction debris for the pillow can not be used. With a high location of groundwater between a layer of stone fractions and sand, it is necessary to lay geotextiles, which will protect against silting.

The next stage is the device of the chosen type of coating. The depth of the trench should be calculated in advance, so that the top layer is not too thin. A removable formwork is installed along the outer edge of the trench. Instead of formwork, you can install a curb stone. If concrete laying is planned, then it is necessary to make deformation-temperature seams, which will protect the concrete cover from destruction by frosty winter. Deformation seams are the slats, placed on the edge across the blind area with a step of not more than 3 m. Reiki treated with bitumen. Their upper surface should be at the same level with the top surface of the concrete, taking into account its slope. Then the concrete is laid, the slats are thus the beacons by which it is leveled. Ready damp blind area is sprinkled with cement, and then it is smoothed with a trowel and covered with a wet cloth. Within a week, the concrete is kept in this state, periodically watering to ensure that the fabric is always wet. A week later the device of the blind area is completely finished.

When constructing a blind area, the following rules should be adhered to:

1. That water was taken away from the house, the blind area is laid with a slope from the building. Slope should be at least 2%. And although it is practically invisible, it nevertheless guarantees the removal of water from the base.

2. Between the blind and the wall, a gap is left to protect the walls from damage during the fallout. Compensation seam is filled with expanded polystyrene, sand, polyurethane sealant. Sometimes two layers of roofing material are enough.

3. On the perimeter of the blind area, digging grooves for drainage or laying special gutters, which look much more aesthetic.

4. The width of the blind is assumed to be 20 cm wider than the projection of the eaves to the ground, but not less than 60 cm.

If the device does not comply with these rules, unfortunately, very soon the consequences will be: cracks, chips, destruction of individual areas, which will adversely affect the conditions of operation of the building. The very importance of the function performed by the blind area presupposes a responsible attitude towards its design.
