Bag under the eye: causes and elimination

Almost every person of middle age came across this phenomenon. It's worth working late at the computer, falling asleep on your left side, and the next morning in the mirror you can clearly see the treacherous edema under your left eye. Or maybe after a merry party, where a lot of alcohol or coffee was drunk, did the person fall asleep on his right side? Then do not be surprised if the next morning there will be swelling under the right eye. Dark circles on the lower eyelid sometimes appear without any apparent reason. In any case, they give the person a tortured appearance. Why there is a bag under the eye and how can I fight it?

A little anatomy

Between the eyeball and the eye socket is a layer of adipose tissue, which serves as a kind of shock absorber and is called periorbital fiber. It is separated from the age by a connective tissue membrane. This orbital septum is designed to keep the fatty tissue inside the orbit . Until recently, scientists believed that the bag under the eye appears when the connective tissue membrane is lost its elasticity, when it stretches and sags outward. Therefore, with surgical intervention on the lower eyelids, surgeons strengthened and sutured this septum. And in the summer of 2008 it became known that the bag under the eye appears because of the increase in periorbital fiber. The fatty layer begins to bulge outward and extends beyond the orbit. The cause of an increase in volume may be swelling or swelling. In the first case, the bags under the eyes are constant and do not depend on the current time of day. And if the swelling becomes a cause of swelling, then it is noticeable most immediately after sleep. And during the day, under the influence of gravity, the fluid moves away from the upper half of the face, gradually decreases in volume and is eliminated from the body.

How to deal with this

The bag under the eye can be eliminated on its own can only when its cause was the swelling of the periorbital fiber. First it is necessary to identify and remove the cause - it can be excessive consumption of alcohol, salt, coffee at night, too long tanning, eye strain or a consequence of chronic diseases. If, despite all the measures taken, the external condition of the eyelids leaves much to be desired, you can use the appropriate lotion or cream or choose something from a vast arsenal of folk remedies. For example, to remove the sack under the eye, you can apply to it a contrasting compress made of water chamomile, sage, dill or fennel. The easiest way is to use spilled tea bags. If the cause of bags under the eyes has become a hereditary or age-related growth of cellulose, then in this case, it is unlikely to manage without surgery - eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). Its essence is that an inconspicuous section of the eyelid is made from the side of the conjunctiva or under the eyelashes and through it the areas of adipose tissue are excised to the desired value, and then the plastic of the orbital septum is made. The skin of the eyelids is excised in very rare cases. After correctly performed blepharoplasty, which lasts from 2 to 3 hours, the effect persists for decades, and the rehabilitation period is 10-12 days.
