Back in business: Ford Expedition

Ford Expedition is a powerful SUV, first introduced in 1997 and since then has undergone two modifications: in 2003 and 2007. Want to find out why it has been so popular for fifteen years already?

Design

When you look at the Ford Expedition, you immediately notice its impressive dimensions - more than five meters in length and two meters in width.

In the cabin there are three rows of seats, which is typical for cars of this class. In this case, the second and third rows can be folded, then the volume of the trunk increases to three thousand liters - this is an absolute record among other SUVs.

Materials for the upholstery of the interior can be fabrics or genuine leather.

Characteristics

Under the hood of the Ford Expedition there is a V8 petrol engine, which is produced in two versions - 218 horsepower with a volume of 4.6 liters or 233 horsepower with a volume of 5.4 liters. This engine can be rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel drive. In this case, in the first variant, instead of torsion bars, conventional coil springs are placed ahead. However, as practice shows, the quality of driving is not particularly reflected.

I would like to note that Ford Expedition has the most impressive brake system from all cars of its class: the front dimensions are thirteen inches, and the rear ones are eleven. Brake pads are equipped with double calipers, which makes the braking distance noticeably shorter, even if you sharply press the pedal.

First modification

In 2002, the modified version of the Ford Expedition was introduced at the Detroit auto show. Its dimensions became even larger, and the trunk volume was also increased. The new model was equipped with a rear suspension and rack and pinion control. The third row of seats slightly changed - now it's much easier to add them. In addition, the car was equipped with a more powerful engine and a four-speed gearbox.

Of the improvements in electronics, it can be noted that the developers paid more attention to the safety of passengers. For example, airbags can remain in an inflated condition for six seconds to reduce damage when the car is repeatedly flipped.

The second modification

It happened in 2007. Now the car got cruise control, air conditioning, on-board computer and navigation system. All systems are electronically controlled, even the position of the pedals can be adjusted in the way the driver wants.

There are four transmission modes: rear and full drives, automatic switching to four-wheel drive, as well as the inclusion of a reduced gear.

In addition, the model was equipped with dynamic braking control, which created maximum braking in the shoes, when it was necessary. The standard equipment included seventeen-inch wheels, equipped with pressure sensors.

The second modification is still the last, so the 2012 Ford Expedition looks very similar.
