What is the Day of Long-Range Aviation?

In Russia, historically part of the Air Force (Air Force), namely the 37th Air Army, is commonly called long-range aviation. One of its main tasks today is the strategic deterrence of a possible enemy from the air. If there is a need, long-range aviation will strike at enemy military and technical bases over long distances.

A bit of history

More than a hundred years ago, when no one was celebrating the Day of Long-Range Aviation (because the very notion of long-range aviation did not yet exist), aviation engineer II Sikorsky developed a new bomber. It was the four-engine and the largest in the whole world. His test took place in late 1913.

"Ilya Muromets" - so began to call him and some other similar series of aircraft, when a year later, on 23.12.1914, Nikolay II signed the order to create a squadron of (first) bombers. From this day the countdown of the world's heavy bomber and long-range aviation of Russia began.

Therefore, when in the modern time the question arose as to which date the Day of Long-Range Aviation should be celebrated, the answer did not take long to wait. And in 1999, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief issued an order declaring December 23 a professional holiday of long-range aviation pilots. Since then, all the military of the 37th Air Army of the Air Force of Russia celebrate this day their professional holiday.

Century of long-range aviation of Russia

In 2014, the whole country celebrated the centennial of long-range aviation. On this day, they recalled the history of the foundation, the participation of bombers during the First and Second World Wars. Many pilots on TV screens and newspaper pages themselves told people about their profession.

The Day of Long-Range Aviation was shown a documentary film, created for the anniversary. He traces the entire path from the first "Ilya of Murom" to the modern Tu-160.

By the holiday, the medal "100 Years of Long-Range Aviation of Russia" was issued.

Long-Range Aviation Today

Today, long-range aviation carries out important tasks to combat terrorism in Syria and Iran. On its armament there are different types of aircraft. Among them are the strategic missile carriers (supersonic Tu-160, which in the world is the largest, and Tu-95 MS), long-range bombers (Tu-22M3) and fuel refuelers (IL-78M).

Of course, not all countries like the power of Russia's long-range aviation, which is growing every year. But they can only accept the situation as it is. And even more so no one will be able to prevent Russian citizens from celebrating their day of long-range aviation.

December 23 is the day of long-range aviation of the Russian Air Force, and every citizen must remember this. And although this day is a worker, but this does not lose its significance. After all, military people do not know rest, especially if the country's security is under threat.
