Connection of fogs via relays: circuit, step by step instruction

If your profession is connected with frequent trips by car, or you just love to travel, then you probably know that without a good optics, it is difficult to guarantee the safety of driving. At the moment, even the shortest trip should not be made without good fog equipment. This optics is now installed on almost every car in the basic configuration. However, there are machines in which it is necessary to independently connect the fogs through the relay. The scheme and stages of the installation of this optics - later in this article.

What are the fogs for?

Before I tell you about the features of mounting these elements, a few words about how important they are for the car. The main function of the fog lamps is to provide light. From this characteristic, the quality and range of illumination of the roadway depend. If the fog lights are well-tuned, they are able to light up to 10 meters of asphalt in front of you, which is enough for safe movement at a speed of 50-60 kilometers per hour. And it does not matter in what weather you are driving - with a cloudless sky or with thick fog - with this function, this optics always works. So how do you install it in a car?

Connecting the fogs via a relay: a diagram and an instruction manual

First we will prepare the necessary tools and materials. In the course of the work we will need a 15 amp fuse, several meters of wires, an insulating tape, a power button, a shoe and a PTF relay. The scheme for connecting the fog-lights through the relay is shown in the photo below. On it we will be guided.

This is the same circuit for connecting the relay fog. In principle, it does not present any complexity, and it is very easy to deal with it.

How to start the installation?

First of all, it is necessary to remove the central panel - there will be 2 lamps for lighting the regulator of the furnace. They do not influence PTF work in any way, but we will need their wires. To feel the two-pin connector, you should hold your hand on the wire to the very end. It is especially important, since it is here that the first contact on the relay will be installed. Then the wire is connected to the spot of the furnace lighting connector, and the second part goes to a separate button for turning on the PTF.

Connect contacts

How to connect the fog-light through the relays next? In order for the system to have a twelve-volt network from the dimensions and 85 contacts, it is necessary to conduct a wire to the relay. Further we stretch 87 contacts under the pedals to the battery.

How to make the correct connection of the fog-lights through the relay? The circuit includes 30, 85, 86 and 87 contacts. They, according to the picture, we connect. Here we install a 15 amp fuse. And the closer it is to the battery, the better. Next 86th contact. Here everything is simple - we connect it with the body.

About wires

Now you need to deal with the fogs themselves. As we know, from each headlight there are only two wires ("plus" and "minus" respectively). The latter is connected to the body, that is, it will be our mass. Next, lift it to the relay so that the wires are not visible, and connect to the battery. This completes the connection of the fog-lights through the relay. The connection scheme, as we see, is very simple, so even a novice motorist will cope with this task.

The second installation option

It will be much easier for car owners who already have a place in the bumper for fixing the fog lamps. Then no fuses to buy it is not necessary. All that is required is a pair of new foglamps and up to 100 centimeters of wire (in reserve). PTF for foreign cars often have two wires, painted in black and red. The latter combines with the "plus", and the first - with a "minus". Although on some specimens (as, for example, on fogs for "Daewoo Nexia" of Asian production) it is not important what color to connect to. Red can perfectly perform the function of "plus" and "minus". By the way, if you did not find wires to connect the optics in the bumper, you can try to connect them directly to the battery. And it is not necessary to pull the "plus" and "minus" from each lamp separately. The order of installation can be the following - two wires (as we have already said, black and red) are installed to the battery terminals (more precisely, under them), which go first to the left headlight from the driver's side, and then to the right one. If the wires are short, take longer ones, clean their contacts at the ends and connect them. Have to stock up on it with tape. The color of the long wire, which will be connected with the PTF and battery, is not principled. The main thing is that you do not get confused in the polarity. Also, be alert and switch off the battery power before installation. Otherwise, the slightest contact of the wire with the body can lead to a short circuit.

Such an algorithm for the installation of PTF is suitable not only for foreign cars, but for all domestic cars on which the manufacturer provides a place for attaching optics. For example, on vehicles VAZ 2110 and 2114, the connection of the fog-lights in this way takes no more than 20-40 minutes of time (and this despite the fact that the car enthusiast has no experience installing such equipment on a vehicle).

What are the requirements for the PTF?

Finally, we note what rules must meet modern fog lights:

  1. In order to illuminate the roadway well, this type of optics should have a clear beam boundary at the top. Thus, the light in the headlights diffuses slightly above the horizontal plane.
  2. If the automaker did not provide a place for PTF mounts, do not install them above the headlights. Try to place them as close to the roadway as possible. The lower this optic is, the better it will "break" the foggy barrier in front of you. But do not forget about the road gleam of the car. If the headlight is located at a distance of 10 centimeters from the asphalt, then during rainy weather it will constantly get wet, and the water that gets inside the reflector will stay there for several weeks. And all this period the glass will be cloudy, and the quality of lighting will deteriorate significantly. On machines such as VAZ "classic" the optimal solution to the problem is the installation of PTF under the steel bumper. So you "will kill two birds with one stone." First, at this distance from the road the headlight will never get wet, and secondly, it looks very attractive and does not disfigure the appearance of the car. But where in general there is no sense in mounting the PTF, so it's on the roof (often the owners of SUVs do this). The benefits of such illuminations are zero, but this technique will be completely dazzled.
  3. If this is not factory optics, it is advisable to purchase it with special plugs. So you will significantly increase the service life of the headlights and provide them with high security when riding on rough terrain. And it protects the fog cap all year round at any time of the day.
  4. When operating it is important not to allow the opacity or fogging of optics. To prevent this, you should regularly treat their surface with special polishes (at least every 2-3 months).

Conclusion

As you can see, the connection of fogs to the VAZ 2110 and many other cars of domestic production is quite an easy task, which every motorist can cope with. The fog lamp is your reliable assistant, which allows you to distinguish objects on the roadway in time and with a large amount of time to respond to the traffic situation.
