Underestimation of the preparatory phase is the most common cause of disappointment.

What is meant by preparation?

First. It is necessary to take out as much as possible furniture, carpets and decorative elements. If this is not possible, cover all the remaining surfaces with a protective material, for example, a film, covers or screens.

The second. Close the sockets and switches, seal the masking tape window frames and skirting boards. Cover the floors with film or newspapers.

Third. Remove all fixings from the surface of the walls and cover up unnecessary holes and cracks.

Fourth. The laying of pipes and wires must also be carried out at this stage.

Painting works.

In the implementation of repair work, there is a golden rule, adhering to which, you can save time, energy and finances. All work must be done from the top down, that is, along the route: ceiling - walls - floor. The force of gravity of the Earth, as is known, attracts not only people and objects, but also splashes of paint, plaster, etc.

This rule will avoid the need to repaint the soiled areas.

In order not to be mistaken in the amount of necessary material, for example, paint, follow the instructions of the manufacturer, which is usually placed on the label. It should be noted that for painting unprimed surfaces, more paint is required than when repainting old ones.

Suppose we need to paint the ceiling. When working with a roller, you need to start along one side and move to the opposite side. After drying the first layer, cover the second, and if necessary, the third one. The first layer usually takes more paint than the next.

Adhesive wallpaper .

The most common mistake is pasting new wallpaper on top of old ones. This should not be done in any case. The desire to save time in this way will inevitably lead to an alteration.

Another mistake is sticking to the unprimed surface.

Priming the surface of the walls is necessary, because otherwise they will not hold tight.

In this kind of work, too, has its own rules. The first strip is glued from the corner, strictly vertical where there are no places on the wall that require cutting and wallpaper fitting. Go around the perimeter. The work will end in the same corner.

Floors.

Speaking of the sexes, we must remember that there are such concepts as rough (or basic floor) and decorative coating.

The rough floor must be rigid and strong. Its type depends on the decorative cover that you plan to use. To do this, please follow the manufacturer's instructions. The more prepared the rough floor, the longer it will serve you.
