Animals of Chernobyl: life after the disaster

Since the disaster, which happened in Chernobyl, it took many years. Every year researchers, scientists and ordinary tourists come to this area to see the changes themselves. Many of these travelers tell that the animals of Chernobyl are different from the usual ones. They claim that they saw mutated animals and birds with their own eyes. Scientists, on the contrary, talk about another picture, which is observed in these parts.

Level of radiation

Chernobyl and the adjacent territory belong to the area where the radiation background is considered to be the highest. In the fatal 1986, after the explosion, a fire followed, all this in combination led to a huge contamination within a radius of 40 kilometers. Scientists claim that the consequences of emissions are equal to 20 explosions in Hiroshima. Since then , the most powerful isotopes have already disintegrated, and their remains have been absorbed by the soil along with the sediments. Also, Chernobyl animals, plants and mushrooms soaked up radiation so much that it does not affect them anymore, but rather, they themselves became its source.

Zone after the disaster

Until 1986, on this territory, the infrastructure that destroyed the natural lands and displaced the animal world was expanding. But after the accident, when a person stopped working, the natural environment quickly recovered, a variety of animals returned to the region, including large mammals. Deserted fields, villages, cities grew in plants and swam. Animals of Chernobyl felt freedom from man.

Throughout this time, scientists have caught some animals to check how much radioactive particles are contained in their bodies. In the 90s, in the proven roe deer, the cesium-137 index went off scale, exceeding the norm by 2000 times! More recent studies indicate that in animals this rate is still exceeded by a factor of 10.

What do the inhabitants of the exclusion zone look like?

Already many researchers and ordinary travelers visited Chernobyl. Animals-mutants in recent years there almost never occur. Almost all animals have a normal appearance, Who does not frighten anyone and does not bother. Only representatives of birds, in particular swallows, have some mutations associated with coloring. Of course, in the body all beings have an elevated level of radiation, since these are all the same animals of Chernobyl. The photos taken recently show that outwardly the majority of animals have not undergone any changes.

It is worth noting that, right after the accident, when radioactive dust was still everywhere in the said zone, mutations often occurred. Scientists have fixed gigantism, dwarfism and incomprehensible growths, but such changes have happened, mainly with plants.

Who lives in the zone?

When you visit this area on the way, you can meet the animals of Chernobyl, which attract their natural beauty. It is thanks to them that this place seems magical. For example, here come across graceful deer, whole herds of moose, boars and roe deer. Also on the snow you can see how the lynx ran, or to see the real wolf with his own eyes. In addition to animals, there are birds here. On the emerging swamps there live whole flocks of herons, swans and ducks. No less surprising is that here there are black cranes, because now it is a real rarity.

What is the reality

Contrary to the expectations of science fiction writers, for all the time so no one has met mutated Animals in Chernobyl. If any animals had physical deviations, they most likely died, becoming the food of numerous predators. The facts indicate that, basically, the species were not mutated under the influence of isotopes. Because of the strongest radioactive background, Chernobyl remains unoccupied, due to which this zone has become a real reserve with a huge number of animals. Scientists have carried out work on counting the species of mammals and birds that inhabit the radioactive territory. As a result, such rare animals as bears, badgers, bison, lynx, otters and even Przewalski horses were counted . The latter were settled here specially. If we talk about birds, then their species was more than mammals. At the end of the count, it turned out that 61 rare species live on this territory.

But not all remained in the exclusion zone. Animals and birds that are used to being near people left this area. Such birds include pigeons, storks.

A man is more terrible than radiation

Summarizing, it can be noted that the most suitable were the animals of Chernobyl. Photos made in this area, prove this pleasant fact. In addition, the number of livestock is quite large, from which it follows that almost all animals in the exclusion zone can boast of strong health.

For all this time in the Chernobyl zone the population of animals has increased many times. Such data speak only of one thing: for fauna, the neighborhood with man is worse than radiation.
