"500 rubles" (bill): how to determine its authenticity

No one is immune from situations in which fake money falls into his hands . Unfortunately, every year the number of counterfeit banknotes increases, which makes it necessary to exercise care and accuracy. Most often there are fake 500 rubles. The denomination is widespread in circulation and does not attract attention as 1000 or 5000 rubles. To counterfeit scammers money of a smaller value is simply not profitable.

Distinguishing characteristics of fakes

Specialists on monetary issues emphasize that the authenticity of a 500-ruble note should be checked with signs of a fake. For example, the crunch of genuine and counterfeit money is almost the same, but the surface relief will be significantly different. Fakes are smooth to the touch, but real bills are rough. On counterfeit money, watermarks are either completely absent or have unconventional design. They can be very dark or vague. If there is a magnetic thread, then it is very sloppy. The silvery strip, which drove over the figures in the denomination of the banknote, is a bright sign of forgery. It is especially worthwhile to look narrowly at small letters that are practically indistinguishable from counterfeit money. Microperforation is done by a normal needle, not by a laser, in accordance with the technology.

General signs of real money

Most often, scammers try to forge 500 rubles, 1000 and 5000 rubles. This is due to the fact that forging a 100-ruble note promises small benefits, and the risk of punishment remains very high. According to the instruction of the Bank of Russia, the money bill of 500 rubles, in fact, as well as denominations of another denomination, should have the following characteristic parameters:

  • The upper and lower part of the ribbon with the ornament on the front side should be framed with microtext lines, which are quite easy to see even with a slight increase.
  • In separate parts of the security thread, which is visible on the surface of the banknote in the window area of the figured form, if you tilt the bill, you can see the repetitive numbers that determine the value of money. They are usually separated by rhombuses or iridescent shine without any image.
  • On the outskirts of the coupon fields of the banknote there are subtle touches. They are designed for people with poor eyesight and differ in elevated relief, which is easy to perceive by touch.
  • The monotonous field of green is decorated with blue and yellow stripes, which can be seen if you tilt the bill.
  • If you consider 500 rubles, a bill against the light source will be decorated with the number "500". It is worth looking for on the right side of the coat of arms. The numerical value is made from smooth parallel rows of micro-holes that are not felt to the touch.

General individual features 500 rubles

For each banknote of Russia, there is the presence of individual characteristics. If you study 500 rubles, the note must have the following features:

  • The main color of the banknote is purple.
  • Let's pay attention to the fact that the city on a bill of 500 rubles is Arkhangelsk. The front side should be decorated with a monument to Peter the Great with a sailboat and the building of the Sea-River Station. The reverse side of the banknote is framed by the Solovetsky Monastery.
  • When considering a banknote at an angle, in the field of a monophonic field, the number "500" appears. Each digit of the number has its own color. Turning the banknote, but without changing the viewing angle, you can see how the numbers change their shades.
  • On the watermark in the form of Peter I there are both light sections and dark areas, which smoothly flow into each other. Near the portrait there is a number "500", which is lighter on tone than portrait itself.
  • On the reverse side of the banknote, in the area of the security thread, you can see the repeated number "500", which is divided by rhombuses. If we consider the light under the rays of light, then the numbers will be light against a dark background.
  • The image of the marine station is collected from separate graphic parts.

Denominations of 1997

Like all monetary units, 500 rubles - a note issued in 1997 and put into circulation in 1998, has its own protective signs. There are about 12 of them, 4 of which can be seen with the help of special equipment. In addition to the basic parameters typical for each 500-ruble banknote, you can talk about such features:

  • Presence of a multitone watermark.
  • The security thread has a thickness of 1 millimeter, and on it is a combination of letters and numbers "CBR 500".
  • When studying a banknote in the light, you can pay attention to the mutual complementarity of drawings on the front and back.
  • Ornamental tape in the light and at different angles will have the inscription "PP". Letters can be either light on a dark background, or vice versa.
  • The denomination is equipped with protective purple, red and green fibers, the location of which has no regularities.
  • Presence of relief inscriptions: "The ticket of the bank of Russia" and two points, two strips.
  • The denomination of 500 rubles in 1997 is protected by a micro-sight that is not visible to the simple eye. When copying a banknote, moire appears, in the form of dark and light pictures.
  • The presence of two microtexts: "500" and "CBR 500".
  • The text of the emblem and digital denomination when tilted varies from brown to greenish.

Modifications of 2001

A denomination of 500 rubles of the old model (1997) practically coincides in format, plot and color with the modification of 2001. The only innovation is the relief inscription "Modification 2001". It is located in the same place as other elements for people with poor eyesight. The main difference between the old and the new bill is the machine-readable signs of authenticity. Under the ultraviolet light, there is no background illumination of the paper, and the gray elements glow green. Such manipulations did not bring results and counterfeit notes 500 rubles did not appear in everyday life less often. This forced the government to issue new banknotes in 2004 and in 2010.

Modifications of 2004

In 2004, the Russian government issued new 500-ruble banknotes, which were executed on the basis of the 1997 banknote. Among the main differences are 4 protective fibers. In addition to the red, green and bicolor bands, there were also gray ones. The security thread is now stitched in a bill. The denomination is represented in a perforated form. Microperforation is smooth on both sides and imperceptible to touch. In a special field, moire bands appear when copying. To print the face value, a gray color was selected. A significant difference between the 1997 and 2004 banknotes is noticeable when studying them under ultraviolet light. On the front side you can find the inscription "2004 modification". He probes his fingers. The size of the bill of 500 rubles of 2004, as well as of other years of release, is equal to 150 millimeters by 65 millimeters.

Modification of 2010

The last denomination of 500 rubles was issued in 2010. The banknote is characterized by its decoration and format, which were used in 1997, 2001 and 2004. Artistic content and the plot have been changed. The reverse side of the banknote is decorated with a view of the Solovetsky Monastery, but in a completely unconventional foreshortening. The front side of the banknote is adorned with the structure of the river station, which is considerably shaded. The first plan went to the image of a sailboat. The right coupon field is decorated with a combined watermark. The serial number is now registered from the numbers, which increase inconspicuously in the direction from left to right. For individual parts of the image, the presence of magnetic properties is inherent. When checking the bill in ultraviolet radiation, it will radically differ from the design that had a bill of 500 rubles in 1997, and all the notes of other issues.

If you get a fake

If the forgery of a bill fell into your hands, do not try to sell it. The most correct decision is to break and destroy the fake. This will prove how their authenticity and forgery in certain circumstances.

The first place for fakes went to 5000 banknotes. In just 4 months, 3300 banknotes with a face value of 5,000 and 435 banknotes with a face value of 500 rubles were withdrawn from circulation. The main amount of fraud was fixed on the territory of the Central Federal District (12 thousand counterfeit notes). Practically there are no counterfeits in Sevastopol (14 pieces). The last year was completed by the seizure of about 80 thousand counterfeit banknotes in different parts of the country. The forgery of foreign currency, in particular dollars and euros, is not so widespread in the country.
