Zagorsk HPSP: address, photo. Zagorskaya PSPP-2

The capital of any state is practically the most energy-intensive city in the country. This fact is not surprising, given that the main city of the country is often adjacent to many smaller settlements that are also actively involved in energy consumption. Moscow has not become an exception, and its region, which is provided by electricity thanks to a power plant called Zagorskaya PSPP.

Location conditions

This industrial facility is located within the valley of the river Kuny (it is the left tributary of the river Dubna). Zagorskaya PSPP is located in an area whose geological conditions are characterized by experts as rather complicated. The station is located in the taiga-forest zone with considerable humidity (about 629 mm of precipitation per year).

General information about the power plant

Zagorskaya PSHPP is a power plant of pumped storage type, located in the Sergiev Posad district of the Moscow region. It is the largest of the stations of this type that exist in Russia. The facility is considered the most important structural "core" of the entire power system of the Central region, which takes part in the regulation of the frequency of current and power flows, and also covers peak loads at any time of the day and night in the Central and Moscow energy systems. The station was built between 1974 and 2003. Its capacity is 1200 MW. It is owned by the public joint-stock company RusHydro.

Constructive components

Zagorskaya PSPP is divided into two stages - the first one (it is functioning now) and the second one (in the phase of construction).

The first stage of the station (average annual energy production is 1.932 billion kWh) consists of such departments and units:

  • Station node.
  • The pool is accumulating the upper one.
  • Pipelines pressure head.
  • The water inlet is reversible.
  • Pool accumulating the bottom.

Let us consider the station node in detail. It's big enough. Its structural units are:

  • Station building.
  • The assembly site.
  • Matching retaining walls of the first and second tiers.
  • Fastening of the downstream.
  • Matching pressure head earth dams.
  • The open-type switchgear 500 kV (ORU).
  • Service and production building.
  • Transformer workshop.
  • Premises of thyristor starting devices.
  • Drainage systems.

Zagorskaya PSPP (address: Russia, Moscow region, Bogorodskoe settlement) is constructed of reinforced concrete and has a length of 138 meters, a width of 73 meters, a height of 50 meters. The structure consists of five sections, four of which have one hydroelectric unit. In the central (fifth) section there are two hydraulic units, as well as a pumping station for the dehumidification system. For the purpose of mounting or dismantling hydraulic units, two bridge cranes are used, each with a lifting capacity of 320 tons. Directly hydraulic units consist of engine-generators and pump-turbines, which were manufactured at the Leningrad Metal Works.

Features of the station

An open switchgear serves to connect the station itself with the power system. Six aggregates of the object are connected in two blocks, connected to the buses of the switchgear, which have the form of a quadrilateral. This is done to simplify the design, but at the same time reduces the reliability of the unit. The switchgear is connected to the power system by means of two 500 kV transmission lines (Turbino substation and Kostromskaya GRES).

Construction of the second stage

The construction of another station node (Zagorskaya GAES-2) takes place several hundred meters to the south of the first stage. The second stage is similar to the first one and in the future will have an average annual electricity production in the amount of 1.1 billion kWh. The design capacity is planned at 840 MW.

Value for the region

Zagorskaya PSHPP, whose photo is shown below, is capable of performing the most important functions, among which it should be noted:

  • The ability to parry a wide variety of problems in the energy system, minimize emergencies. Due to the high maneuverability of the station (its units can change their power very quickly), it can extinguish the power grid. Simply put, GAES is an operational capacity reserve, which can be put into operation as soon as possible. For this reason, the hydrounits of the station can be launched up to three dozen times a day or several hundred times per month.
  • Hydraulic units of the station are also used as synchronous compensators, whose task is to reduce reactive power, capable of increasing the voltage above the normal value.

Impact on the environment

If we talk about the exact location of the station, then this is the Moscow region, pos. Bogorodskoye. Zagorskaya PSPP Does not affect the environment as much as classical hydroelectric power plants. This is explained by the smaller size of the existing reservoir. Since the work of the hydroelectric power station occurs with sufficiently sharp and large fluctuations in the water level in artificial reservoirs, they can not be used as a recreational zone or used for economic purposes. They are considered exclusively as man-made reservoirs, although in reality reservoirs are a favorite place for the local population, which regularly swim and fish in them. It is also important that the station's work allowed to maximally balance the functioning of the largest TPPs in the Moscow region, which ultimately reduced the emissions of various polluting elements and substances into the environment.

Modernization and capacity increase

Zagorskaya PSPP-2 As the object was officially registered on April 26, 2006. As a general designer, the research institute "Hydroproject" was defined. In the spring of 2007, the foundation pit for the new station was started. July 10, 2007 solemnly laid the first stone in the foundation of a new power plant. In the autumn of the same year, contracts were signed, on the basis of which deliveries of the hydropower equipment being introduced are to be carried out. Concrete work was started on July 18, 2008. In 2010, the speed of construction works increased significantly. In the same year, the most powerful impellers of turbine pumps were delivered to the site.

In 2011 the station was half ready. The installation of the first water conduit is completed and work is started on the second line. In December 2012, the first pair of hydroelectric power units of PSPP-2 was tested.

Emergency

In September 2013, there was a flooding of the engine room and the site near the PSPP-2 station. At that time, fifteen employees were able to leave the danger zone in an organized manner. A special commission set up to investigate the incident in detail, found that the flooding was due to a violation of the integrity of the seams and the inlets of unfinished waterways. Further testing showed that there are significant erosion of the soil on the right side of the building. This incident led to the fact that commissioning of PSP-2 was postponed to 2018.

And in conclusion. Many are interested in the question of what is buzzing at the Zagorskaya PSPP. The answer is very simple - this monotonous sound creates the power lines available on it.
