Why does the browser not display images and what should I do?

If the browser does not display images, and instead of them you see only empty squares with crosses - you need to figure out what happened. Let's try to find out what can be caused by this problem and what needs to be done to solve it. In fact, there are not so many possible causes, and most of them are quite harmless.

Reason # 1: Crowded cache and cookie

As you know, while browsing the Internet, the browser writes hundreds of temporary files to your hard drive. This helps to speed up downloading sites and "remember" what you did on different resources. However, if you do not periodically clean up the memory, the program starts to slow down and does not work correctly, which sometimes leads to the fact that the browser does not display images.

Decision:

You must delete the cache files and cookies that have accumulated all the time. To do this, open the history of the visited pages (through the menu or the hot combination Ctrl + H), click the "Clear" button and select the appropriate items. At the end, it is recommended to restart the program.

Reason # 2: Turbo Mode

Practically in all modern browsers there is a special mode intended for accelerated loading of pages at low speed of the Internet. Depending on the settings, it can be turned on automatically or require confirmation. In this mode, multimedia content is not loaded at all, including the contents of sliders and video, and sometimes because of this the browser does not display images.

Decision:

In web browsers that support this function, there is an icon "Turbo mode" in the status bar or right next to the address bar (for example, in Yandex.Browser it is a miniature spaceship). If the button is active, click and disable accelerated page loading.

Reason # 3: Image display is disabled

It is also possible that images are blocked in the program settings. In this case, the images on all sites are not displayed in the browser.

Decision:

Go to the advanced options of your web browser and look for "Content settings" or "Content settings". Check the box next to "Always show images", apply the changes and restart the program.

Reason # 4: Using the AdBlock extension

Despite the fact that ad blockers make life much easier, sometimes they lead to the fact that the content of sites is displayed incorrectly - for example, images are not displayed in the browser. Why is this happening? The fact is that such extensions hide code fragments typical for ad units, being guided by their databases. Sometimes, in addition to various ads, the impact falls and ordinary pictures.

Decision:

Try disabling AdBlock and restarting the browser. If images appear, you need to change the settings or download an alternative extension to block ads.

Reason # 5: Antivirus settings

With the excessively "paranoid" software, probably everyone came across. Most modern antiviruses monitor the operation of the browser in order to monitor and block potential threats in a timely manner. However, sometimes because of the settings for caching Internet traffic, the content on the sites partially ceases to be displayed.

Decision:

Go into your antivirus settings and set a lower protection level, or disable caching. After that, restart the browser and see if there are any pictures.

Reason # 6: Viruses

Although most often malicious software "clogs" the computer with obtrusive advertising, sometimes it happens on the contrary, and because of viruses, the browser does not display images. As a rule, at the same time there are errors and failures in the operation of the rest of the system, the computer slows down, does not want to open any files, etc.

Decision:

Full scan of the PC using anti-virus software. There are subtleties here. First, it's best to check in "Safe Mode Windows" - so the antivirus can find more dangerous files. Secondly, in addition to checking the standard anti-virus (Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Avast, NOD32, etc.), it is recommended to install and use special scanners such as Dr.Web, McAfee and GridinSoft Anti-Malware.

What if nothing helped?

There are only 2 possible options. First, you accidentally changed something in the browser configuration. If images are not displayed in Mozilla for this reason, enter "about: config" in the address bar and return to the standard configuration ("Reset" button). In addition, you can try to reinstall the browser, after erasing all the data about the program.

However, these are already radical measures. If everything is fine with other sites, then, most likely, the problem is on the server side, and therefore you just have to wait for the site owner to take action.
