A living national image. Natalka-Poltavka: a play about life

Undoubtedly, one of the best works of the new Ukrainian literature is the Aeneid of I. P. Kotlyarevsky. However, the talented poet not only pointed out that the culture in Ukraine, and literature in particular, gets a new round of development: the Church language was replaced by a living language, spoken by the people. He made the artistic word interesting, funny, everyday.

Kotlyarevsky wrote for the people and the people, so every image was very successful. "Natalka-Poltavka" - the play is really unique. For the first time set in the Poltava theater in 1819, it has been popular to this day.

The plot of the play

First we will consider the plot of the work, and then we will study the characters in detail, analyze each image. Natalka-Poltavka is a play about the life of the Ukrainian people in the nineteenth century. In a simple village there are two lovers: Natalka and Peter. They dream of getting married, but the guy is poor, so he knows that the girl's parents will not agree to a wedding. In addition, the gentleman in charge had put his eye on her.

After an unsuccessful matchmaking, Peter goes to work. Four years the bride is faithfully waiting for him, but in the family there have been changes. Father died, and Natasha and her mother are forced to work hard to make ends meet. Many girls woo to the girl, who could become a profitable party for her and save the family from poverty. But Natalia refuses everything, staying true to her heart.

The girl is the main, central image. "Natalka Poltavka" is full of colorful characters. Mother persuades her to marry in order to cope with poverty, so she agrees. True, Natalia strongly hopes that all the suitors she denied will not return. But the answering man did not give up his intention and comes to the matchmaker. Bound by the mother's promise, the girl is forced to tie him with a towel.

Culmination

The image of Natalka-Poltavka is interesting from all sides. When Peter returns, the girl tells her that she will not marry him, despite the fact that the matchmaking was successful. Seeing that Natasha really loves another, he acts nobly: the bailiff refuses the bride and allows Peter to marry.

Natasha appears before us a beautiful, intelligent and purposeful girl, faithful and loving. She sincerely loves her mother and is ready to sacrifice much for her, but she is not ready to give up her happiness. Therefore, her kindness disarms even the hated bridegroom.

The main characters of the play

In addition to the girl, there is another image. "Natalka-Poltavka" tells about Petra - beloved Natasha. He is noble, inclined to self-sacrifice, kind and hard-working, but, unfortunately, poor. This is a collected image of a simple people. He does not want to give up his beloved, so he goes to work to prove to her father that his intentions are serious. True, the guy does not differ in boldness and determination: after learning that the girl was wedded, he sacrifices himself and advises her to marry him.

In contrast to Peter put his friend Nikolai - an orphan, a harpooner, but a cheerful and smart guy. He helps a friend to fight for his love, and then wants to go to Zaporozhye.

Written in a cheerful, full of satire language "Natalka-Poltavka." The image is also collected, because it shows how the bosses behaved in those days. An official is a predator both in deeds and in love. He wants to own Natasha, although it seems good-natured and rustic. Although such people are capable of noble deeds.

Conclusion

The play ended with a happy ending. However, it realistically shows social injustice, real life and relations of the common people and power. The author sympathizes with the poor, that is, with all commoners, and condemns officials. Character characters are bright, typical Ukrainian. The same is the language of the narrative. Rich, filled with proverbs and phraseology, he is a real storehouse of folk wisdom and creativity. The play is worth reading to everyone who loves gay works and Ukrainian culture.
