Where is Tolmachevo - the largest airport in Siberia

Where Tolmachevo is located and what it is, not everyone knows. However, travelers are sure to know that this is an international airport in Novosibirsk. It is the largest in Siberia. This is the key hub on air routes from North America to India, Asia, and also from Southeast Asia to European countries. All of Russia is accessible from this airport. Tolmachevo is also the base of military aircraft of the Russian Air Force.

History

This international airport is the only one in Novosibirsk. The exact location where Tolmachevo is located is 21 km from the capital of Siberia, in the satellite city of Ob. It is used not only by residents of Novosibirsk, but also by people from nearby cities: Barnaul, Tomsk, Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk. The fact is that from here flies a large number of flights to other countries. That is why many tourists, preferring direct flights without a transfer, go to Novosibirsk.

The airport was founded in 1957. On July 12, the first passenger flight to Moscow went up from here to the sky. Up to this point the place where Tolmachevo is located was considered to be exclusively a military airfield.

Five years later, a large air terminal building was opened, which is capable of sending up to 1000 people every hour. Passenger traffic has increased over the years. It's time to build not only new air-landing strips, but also a new air terminal.

Until 1992, only regular domestic flights were flying from Novosibirsk. But in 1992 the airport got international status. The first to launch directions to Indonesia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates and China.

Today

Now Tolmachevo airport is the 5th largest in terms of its passenger traffic throughout Russia. In 2015, the number of people using his services amounted to almost 4 million. It occupies a huge area of 618 hectares and has two runways.
