What opposition is represented by the political map of Ukraine

Usually a part of the geographical atlas is called a political map, on which the borders between the countries are clearly marked, and the territories are painted with different colors, so that there are no doubts: here it is Mongolia, and here is China. Ukraine in this sense is a unique country, it has internal borders, and not some administrative ones, but more serious ones, which should be followed with extreme caution. As from anywhere a political map of Ukraine arose. Today this is a very serious reality. This is not a joke.

Yes, this joke is old, but it has not lost its relevance. Quite the opposite. On every television screen, whatever the transmission, in the corner there is an icon in March - the yellow and blue flag and the signature "United country". At the same time, the difference between the perception of the inhabitants of individual regions is sometimes much more significant than, for example, the average American and the Canadian, although these countries are perceived by the inhabitants of the planet as fully sovereign states. The political map of Ukraine, compiled from the beginning of the Kiev riots that occurred in late 2013, initially showed the distribution of sympathies and antipathies to the participants of the Maidan. In the West, they were sympathetic, in the East - not very much, but in the South - also somehow did not welcome the next revolution, knowing from experience that it is hardly better.

After the victory of the Maidan

But Maidan won. The celebration somewhat overshadowed the departure of Crimeans along with their entire peninsula, and for a couple of months the political map of Ukraine remained uncertain, no one knew if it would be possible to return the rebellious province to the fold of a single power. Then came the numerous excesses associated with the seizure of administrative buildings, and in the West, and in the East, and in the South, and in the North. But the Maidan did not disperse, which did not add to the general picture of calm. In Rivne, a certain Sashko Bily, waving a Kalashnikov rifle, suggested that he take someone away. The formation of self-defense units by their mass character evoked associations with 1918, although not all, but only those who taught history at school. There are few such today.

Historical debate

The attitude to the heroic past of the Ukrainian people in society is extremely ambiguous. If in the Western regions the number of those who consider UPA fighters, SS battalion soldiers Nachtigal and Roland, Galychin's divisions as heroes, not a few, then in Donetsk or Odessa, those are much less. Despite the explanatory work carried out practically with all the presidents of Ukraine since 1991, this difference remains, apparently, family traditions take place , and for their parents schoolchildren believe for some reason more than conscious ("svidomym") teachers. To Mazeppa are also treated differently.

Thus, the political map of Ukraine is divided and according to historical preferences. There is no particular reason to hope that they will eventually flatten out, although there are still some progress.

Before the elections

The political map of Ukraine by regions is similar to a patchwork quilt, over which someone fired from a shotgun. Individual fragments mean the quantitative superiority of the adherents of the European integration or the customs union, and the points "shooting" are the cities in which the violent change of power occurred. There the governors, kneeling, asked for forgiveness from the people. This happened in different regions, regardless of political orientation, but the proponents of choosing a course toward rapprochement with Russia were declared separatists and terrorists. Further actions of the authorities were easy to predict, troops were sent to subdue the rebels.

The elections were held

Both in the eastern regions and in the West from the upcoming presidential elections, people expected a lot, first of all, the cessation of bloodshed. In Odessa, before the elections, the camp of the supporters of the Customs Union was destroyed, people of different political views were killed . The perpetrators must determine the consequence, which is not yet completed. The political map of Ukraine began to replenish with other "hot spots".

The election did not produce the expected results. Confrontation in the Donbass continues, leading to numerous human casualties.

How borders are drawn

There are several criteria for building the current political map of Ukraine. About half of the population speaks Russian in this country. It's not that these people refuse to teach the Ukrainian language, but they have to acknowledge the right to use their native speech in the process of work. There are different views on the state system. "Broad autonomy" is a vague concept, there are supporters of both the federal system and the unitary one. To argue that any of these two groups clearly outnumber their opponents is difficult, as long as people have not been asked. In real combat, this means the rightness of those who are better armed and shoot first.
