Political Dictionary of Ukraine: who are Maidanovites?

Who are Maidanovites? Who is called this new word? How do they differ from the people or the existing political forces? Let's understand.

What's happened

To begin to understand who such Maidanovs are, it is necessary from the study of events. What did the people want? Why did you come to Maidan? And the following happened. The authorities firmly Promised the people to stick to the course for Eurointegration. Naturally, the merits of this direction were painted in the most iridescent colors. Then it suddenly turned out that this course is not so profitable for Ukraine. The authorities decided to make a swift turn of one hundred and eighty degrees towards Russia. This people did not like. He began to pull himself to the place, which historically enshrined the role of the "peaceful shelter of protest" - Independence Square. The only requirement was to return to the previous course. By the landmark date - November 30 - it became clear that the authorities did not intend to listen to the people's voice: the agreement was not signed. The meaning of the protests was lost, hundreds of young people remained on the square. And then there was an unexpected turn. This small group of peaceful children decided to roughly "clean up". An armed attack on defenseless people produced the effect of a bomb exploding. Protests have acquired a different meaning.

What the Maydanovs Want

The dispersal of the people was just in time to breathe new meanings into the protesters. But rather, he proved to them that the current authorities no longer have the strength to endure. On Maidan all those who hate corruption, lawlessness and insolence of the old regime began to gather. A number of reasons for the time of Yanukovych's reign were plentiful. And the unresolved problems of local self-government, and squeezing people out of business, and an irreconcilable attitude to dissent. All this was accumulating in the people. An armed attack on a handful of students served as a wick that lit up the popular revolt. The Maidanovites, who began their performances quite peacefully, demanding European integration, gradually formulated other goals. It became obvious that people are not satisfied with not only the external, but any policy of the current government. The participants began to make clear demands for a change in the country's leadership: early presidential elections, the resignation of the government.

Composition of protesters

It must be said that the uniformity of the Maidanovites was observed only at the very beginning of the speeches. Over time, isolated currents and groups began to separate from the total mass. So, who are Maidanovites? Who is going to the square? The largest group is youth. These are people who grew up in the Nezalezhnaya, who absorbed its ideals. They are guided to Europe by the diaper. They do not see their own life in a different way. This is a progressive, patriotic youth, mainly from the western and central regions. These people stand on the Maidan not for money - for an idea. The next group are representatives of the older generation. They came to protest for the second time. Disappointment with the results of the "orange" revolution, armed dispersal of peaceful protests caused righteous indignation in this category of citizens. They came to defend their freedom. The nationalists are different. This is the ideological basis of the Maidan. They inspire and tune everyone else. Their position: if not me, then who? Such Maidanovites joined the ranks of the Right sector, without letting the protests fade once again, when the authorities fulfilled all their demands.

Traffic spread across the country

Beginning in the center of Kiev, the protest quickly dispersed across the territory of Ukraine. To help the Maidanovites began to organize actions, first in the western, and then in the eastern regions. The activity of the people in different regions is different. This suggests that for 23 years, Ukraine has not been able to gain a solid statehood. Too different ideals are led by people. If the West is unanimously aimed at Europe, the east is hesitating, believing that it will be better with Russia. Quite "tore off" the Crimea. This is a special territory where Maidanovites were never recognized.
