What kind of fish does it eat? Predatory lacustrine fish. Predatory fish of the sea

Pisces is a superclass of aquatic vertebrates. They are characterized by gill respiration. They are distributed both in fresh and salty waters; As in mountain streams, and in deep ocean basins. These creatures play a crucial role in many aquatic ecosystems and are of great economic importance for humans. This is their brief characteristic. As you may have guessed, this article will deal with fish, in particular, about predatory inhabitants of the underwater kingdom. We will tell you about the most famous and vivid predators: you will find out what they eat and what kind of fish they eat.

A little lyrics ...

As a rule, on a nice sunny day, the water surface reminds us of a large mirror. One has only to look into this "mirror", as immediately there will be clouds in it that float through the heavens, as well as trees bent over the pond. At this moment it may seem that the pond is empty and dead, but it's not at all so! In fact, under this mirror smooth surface life is boiling! Sometimes there even flare serious passions. Some of the main characters in this underwater "play" are fish. Immediately and do not understand what kind of fish that eats, but it happens there with an enviable regularity!

Who are the fish?

A brief scientific description of these animals we presented to you above. In simple terms, fish are usually referred to as all vertebrate animals inhabiting fresh and salt water sources. Almost all fish have paired limbs, represented by fins, and their respiratory organs are the gills. From the point of view of zoological classification, fish is a common name that unites 6 independent classes (groups) that differ among themselves in one or another characteristic, one of which indicates the belonging of fish to predatory or peaceful individuals. In this article, we are more interested in predators. Let's find out what kind of fish that eats.

Perch ordinary

This is a typical inhabitant of the fresh water reservoirs of our country. Ordinary perch belongs to the most numerous class of highly organized fish - ray-finned. Its body is compressed laterally, has an oval shape and consists of three parts: head, trunk, tail. The perch, like all other fish, breathes with gills, so oxygen is vital to it. And he has it, but not exactly like ours: fish extract oxygen not from the air, but from the water. To do this, the fish are forced by the mouth to swallow the air, driving it through the gill cavity, located under the gill covers.

What does a perch feed on?

An ordinary perch is a ravenous lake fish. It is found in rivers, lakes, ponds, reservoirs of Europe and North Asia. Perch was brought to Africa, New Zealand, Australia. The diet of these fish is made up of other freshwater fish. Initially, the perch fry feed on zooplankton, and as soon as they grow up, they begin to hunt young growth of other perch and carp. With fry of other relatives, these fish begin to eat, as a rule, in the second year of their life. With age, the common perch goes on to hunt for large and more mobile fish.

How do the perches hunt?

Adult individuals are agile and quite powerful predators. They swim very fast, sometimes stop completely, but then immediately rush forward. These fish have a huge mouth, located at the front end of the head. In the mouth, even with the naked eye can be seen jaws, dotted with numerous teeth, however, small. If the perch begin their hunt, then someone definitely will not get better!

The predatory lacustrine fish can pursue its prey long and hard. A perch is running after it, opening its huge mouth and issuing a kind of "champ". Fishermen say that a frightened victim often jumps out of the water, but it still does not save her: the perch gets what he wants. Sometimes these predators, too carried away by the pursuit of their prey, jump out after it stranded, and sometimes on the coastal sand ... In general, perches are predators from God: these voracious creatures will not miss any living creature that can fit in their wide mouth .

Pike Ordinary

Ordinary pike is a predatory fish inhabiting the fresh water bodies of North America and the whole of Eurasia. Usually, it can be found in the coastal zone, in aquatic thickets, in weakly flowing or completely inactive waters. From this point of view, pikes are river predators. But often they are found on desalinated areas of various seas. For example, you can meet a pike in the Riga, Finland and Curonian Bays of the Baltic Sea, as well as in the Taganrog Gulf of the Azov Sea. So from this point of view, pikes are predatory fish of the sea.

What does the ordinary pike eat?

Its main food ration is based on representatives of various species of fish. For example, they are happy to attack:

  • Perches;
  • Ruffs;
  • Minnows;
  • Podleschikov;
  • Golyanov;
  • Duster;
  • Loaches;
  • Bull-podkamenschikov.

Answering the question about what kind of fish that eats, inveterate fishermen say that they come to mind just the pike, which eats with pleasure roach. It is understandable: the fact is that the pike is an unspoken symbol of all the river predators of our country, and the roach is its most favorite food.

Ichthyologists describe the cases when these fish grabbed and dragged into their water mice, rats, small ducklings, waders and even squirrels! All these animals swam across fresh water during their seasonal migrations. Large individuals can generally attack adult ducks, especially during their molting. In spring and at the beginning of the summer season, pikes eat eagerly on cancers and frogs. By the way, a pike victim can often be a fish, almost twice as large as the predator in size!

The most dangerous and predatory fish on Earth is the white shark

A predatory fish, called a shark-eater, carharodon, or a large white shark, is the most terrible and one of the largest fish on our planet. On average, these predators grow to 4.7 meters in length, but ichthyologists have recorded individual individuals reaching 7 meters in length and weighing up to 1,900 kilograms. Sharks do not have bones, their skeleton consists entirely of cartilage. The skin of many of them is covered with spikes sharp as a razor. Curiously, residents of some islands use shark skin as a grinding material.

Where do the white sharks live?

The range of their distribution is huge! These predators live in the open oceans and coastal waters of the island and continental shelves, the temperature of which reaches 13-25 degrees Celsius. But there are also sharks who prefer to swim in tropical waters. The main territory of the cluster of these monsters is the coastal waters of Lower California (Mexico), California (USA), New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the Mediterranean. This terrible fish can be met (but it is better not to meet!) And off the East coast of the USA, off the coast of the island of Cuba, Argentina, Brazil, etc. It inhabits the Red Sea (Indian Ocean), the Seychelles, the waters of the island of Mauritius, etc.

What does the white shark eat?

White sharks are predatory fish (photo below), devouring everything in its path. "A wolf on earth is a shark in the sea," the sailors say. And not for nothing! These dangerous predators flock to the ships awaiting the arrival of a man or other creatures into the water. But, as a rule, this does not happen, therefore, white sharks (and sharks in general) with great pleasure are eating everything that ill-bred people throw out not in urns, but straight from ships to the seas and oceans:

  • cans;
  • Flasks;
  • empty bottles;
  • Disposable dishes;
  • Other trash.

If we talk about animal feed, then these fish prey mainly in the daytime and eat such animals as:

  • Skates;
  • tuna;
  • Other sharks;
  • Dolphins;
  • Sea pigs;
  • Whales;
  • Seals;
  • Sea lions ;
  • seals;
  • Sea otters ;
  • Sea turtles;
  • birds.

White sharks can also be scavengers: they will never bypass the carcass of a dead whale. By the way, the hunting tactics of these predators directly depend on one or another prey. For example, in the Silent Island, they attack Cape Fur at great speeds, and northern elephant seals are immobilized off the coast of California . Ordinary seals, these sea predators grab directly from the surface of the water, dragging them to the abyss of the sea.
