What is the Jericho pipe

Sometimes you can hear from people about this expression: "You shout straight, like a pipe Jericho!" In this article we will try to clarify the meaning of this phrase. Let's find out what the "Jericho pipe" is - the meaning of this term. To do this, you will have to travel to the distant past. And tell us about the event underlying the expression of interest to us, the Bible.

The very source of knowledge mentioned above is in our time almost in every house. Bible owners can believe in God or doubt, but it is likely that events related to the term "Jericho trumpet" took place in fact. A biblical story is described in the Book of Joshua. This commander-conqueror, who was also an assistant and disciple of the prophet Moses.

Probably everyone knows the biblical story of how Moses led the Israeli people in the desert for 40 years, and people constantly murmured: they did not have enough food or water, they made a golden calf instead of God. These events are explained in this way: the people of Israel came out of the slavery of Egypt, but only slavery did not come out of the hearts of men. They behaved like slaves, constantly making riots against the prophet Moses, expressing their displeasure at the slightest occasion. It is not difficult to guess that with such "warriors" the conquest of the land, which God promised to Abraham, was impossible.

Over time, people who have a slavish spirit, died out in the desert, and their children - a new generation, mature enough to enter the Promised Land. The prophet Moses also died, bequeathing Joshua to be firm and courageous, and to bring people into Canaan. Now Navin became the leader of the people, and God testified his authority with various miracles. We will have to omit some details because of their multiplicity. But Joshua and the army of the new generation decided to invade the land of Canaan by the will of Moses and God.

And so, after sending the scouts, the great commander approached the city, called Jericho. Soon we will learn what is the "Jericho pipe", more precisely the pipes, but for now - a little patience. This city was very well fortified and surrounded by powerful walls. In fact, it was an impregnable fortress of enormous size.

God turns to Joshua and assures the commander that without doubt he will win a brilliant victory. The Lord's proposed strategy of conducting the siege of the fortress was somewhat unusual. The priesthood and able-bodied people had to walk around Jericho for seven days. Ahead was the army fully armed, and followed by seven priests, each of whom had a trumpet. The expression "Jericho trumpet" begins to clear up, but this is not the whole entertaining story. Behind the seven priests followed others who carried the Ark of the Covenant, and after them all the rest of the male population.

So the priests blew their seven trumpets, but the rest of the people did not remain silent. More precisely, they were strictly forbidden to cast their voice until the time when Joshua submitted a special sign. "Exclaim me!" Cried the leader on the seventh day of Jericho's circuit. The people unanimously and loudly cried out and the walls of the city fell. The army broke in and conquered it. Is it true? To judge the reader, but this biblical story has many opponents, as well as others, described in the Bible events.

And yet, a certain Dr. Brian Wood, an employee of the University of Toronto, relatively recently released the results of excavations carried out exactly at the site of the ancient city of Jericho. He and his assistants conducted a thorough radioactive analysis. Other methods of research were used. As a result, it turned out that the city was really surrounded by high and very strong walls, which almost simultaneously were destroyed. Here you and the "Jericho pipe."

Presumably, a great many people who shouted in unison could create sound vibrations that resonated with the frequency of strong walls. That's how their destruction happened. Well, the very expression "Jericho pipe" in our time has such significance: a zychny, trumpet, very loud voice.
