What is oil-removal caps and how are they arranged?

Of course, lubrication is necessary for the normal operation of the engine and its components. Interestingly, getting oil into the combustion chamber itself can lead to a major overhaul of the entire ICE. But its presence on the walls of the camshaft just contributes to the smooth and uninterrupted operation of the entire car. Therefore, when moving the valves, oil from the stem is removed by special protective elements - oil suction caps. They will be discussed today.

What are they needed for?

The main function of this part is to close the valve, which excludes the possibility of oil penetration inside. The oil-removable caps always fit tightly to the valve surface, but still a few milliliters of grease penetrate through them. This is normal, since the part should not work dry. But the excessive amount of oil has a negative effect on the operation of the valve.

What are the oil caps made from?

By its design, this part is a rubber sleeve with a rigid steel base. That is, the main component of the oil-removable caps is rubber, since it depends on the degree of wear and tear that the serviceability and the life of the entire mechanism depend. The steel base can serve forever, so it does not have as much significance as its second component. As for the rubber itself, there are also nuances here. If the cap was made of acrylic or secondary rubber, be sure: this part will last a very long time. If the composition of rubber includes other components, their service life can be very short. Therefore, it is better not to purchase such details.

By the way, very few people know, but today's oil-removable caps differ significantly from their "ancestors". The first mechanisms had only rubber in their composition. Due to lack of base, these parts lost their elasticity and strength very quickly.

When is oil change caps replaced?

VAZ 2109, like all other domestic cars, has similar symptoms when this part is leaking. The main sign of loss of rubber properties will be increased oil consumption. You can also see blue or bluish smoke from the exhaust pipe (but this may also indicate the overhaul of the ICE). However, if you do not observe such symptoms, do not think that the condition of the caps is ideal. As a rule, manufacturers recommend changing this part every 20 thousand kilometers. Therefore, even if you do not have an increased fuel consumption, when you reach this kilometer, make sure to replace this mechanism. This work is not so difficult to seek help from a service center. You can do everything yourself. In addition, the cost of replacing the oil-removable caps on the service station is 5 thousand rubles.

Finally a little advice. If you will make a replacement with your own hands, be sure, except for new caps, get a remover of valve biscuits. It can be found absolutely in any autoshop.
