What is a remix? Detailed analysis
The article tells about what a remix is, why it is needed, what is different from the original and who creates remixes.
Music
The first musical instruments found by archaeologists are hundreds of thousands of years old. Perhaps they were before, but the very first copies simply did not survive. This figure seems incredible, but it is. Our primitive ancestors played on simple flutes, which were made from animal bones, and the location of their holes indicates that these were exactly musical instruments.
Much later, with the advent of a more or less developed society, music was still an important part of culture. Especially prized wandering poets and musicians, because in those days the media simply was not, and the news, songs and poems passed from mouth to mouth. Probably, it was then that the first remixes appeared in the modern sense of the word. For example, the lyrics of some songs could vary greatly depending on the region, but they retained a common musical motive. So what is a remix? What is it created for and by whom? We will talk about this.
Definition
To begin with, let's look at the terminology. The word is derived from the English phrase "Re-mix". Remixes are versions of songs or other sound works that were recorded later than the original and with strong or minor differences. They appear, as a rule, in a more modern version of the arrangement (if it is a question of classics or just old songs) or are created by imposing and adding some additional effects, sounds or melodies. Also remixes often change the tonality, tempo and location of parts of the original song. So now we know what a remix is.
Reason for appearance
Unlike cultural or other differences, because of which the reworking of songs in antiquity took place, with modern remixes everything is not so simple. It began in the second half of the XX century and is closely connected with the development of sound recording equipment and the digitization of old information carriers, for example, records. Because of this, a whole direction arose that was busy rewriting old music and improving the overall sound by means of techniques, correcting the defects of the original recording, and so on.
But over time, remixes of songs have turned into a separate trend, which began to engage creative people, amateurs or rights holders in order to change the original music in the ways indicated above. The reason for this action is very simple - creative people began to express themselves in a similar way, and rights holders and singers were able to sell the same albums several times.
The relevance
Basically, remixes are made from songs and other pop culture songs. For example, often composers and copyright holders in advance issue special longer and more energetic versions of their songs, which are suitable for clubs and discos.
Russian remixes
If we talk about such a phenomenon in our musical culture, then one of the first who began remixing was the "Mirage" group. In the period from 1987 to 1988, they released two studio albums, which already in 1994 were processed according to all the rules of the remix, - the general sound, the speed of some tracks, quality, sound effects, etc. were changed. This venture was a success, although, frankly speaking, the new album differed little from the old one, but at that time such a decision and processing were unusual.
Manufacturing
Remixes are made by different people. It's DJs who need to change the tracks so that they sound more "clubbing", and rights holders, and musicians, and just lovers. Especially with the massive proliferation of computers and special programs to do like anyone can, it's a simple matter. So we sorted out the question of what a remix is.
