What can not be attached to an e-mail: we send folders, archives and other files

If you have a question about what can not be attached to an e-mail, then you have come to the right place. At first glance, the question is rather complicated, but if you properly understand it, everything will fall into place.

Email history

Before we still deal with what can not be attached to an e-mail, we offer you a little history. Mail of this kind appeared in 1965. Then for the first time the Mail program was created. Due to the lack of some technologies, the system was somewhat imperfect. Later they created a mail server, on which messages came.

With the advent of other e-mail systems, the mail gateway also became operational. The popular Hotmail service for commercial purposes began to be used since 1994. Then, on the US Independence Day, this event was marked as a release from Internet providers.

Already in 1997, the Yahoo mail service started working, Mail.ru started working for it, and already in a year Yandex started to work. In 2004, this march of services was completed by Google with its Gmail.

Sending regular files

Can I attach a file to an e-mail? Can. Before you send a friend or colleague a report, photos or audio, you should first create a similar material. You know that you can create text in Notepad or in Microsoft Office Word. The spreadsheet is done in Excel. The presentation is created in Power Point.

All basic document formats can easily be sent by e-mail. To do this, you need to go to the site, say, "Yandex", enter your mail, enter your login and password. Click the "Write" button or other similar options. At the very top, you need to enter the e-mail address to which the future letter will be sent. In the line below, specify the subject of the message, for example, if you want to send a report, write a "Report", if these are photographs, you can designate them. This is done so that, by opening your email, your friend saw immediately on the subject of the message the contents of the letter.

So, further in front of you there will be a lot of space to write, suppose an explanation to the file, or just introduce yourself. And below is the button "Attach file". Click here and the dialog box will appear . Here you can find your file, which is located on the computer. The material for sending is best transferred to the desktop, so you do not have to scour through all the folders in search.

After the file is downloaded to the mail server , you will see a tick next to it. Now you can send mail. To do this, click the "Send" button below. And now we will understand what can not be attached to the e-mail.

What about folders?

Few people know, but you can not attach a folder to an e-mail. If suddenly you have a need to send a colleague a whole bunch of photos, documents and audio records, then you have to get acquainted with such a concept as an archive. It is this service that will allow you to send multiple files with one document.

Who is that, what is it?

Archive is a file that contains all the required data, which, in turn, is compressed and reduced in the final size. The latter is necessary in order for the total volume to be suitable for uploading to the mail server. To open the archive, you will need to click on it, in the dialog box you will find all the necessary files. Each of them can be extracted to the specified folder.

The process itself is designed to ensure that all unnecessary data in the files are compressed, thereby the total volume becomes smaller. An interesting fact: text files are best suited for compression, they can be reduced by almost 90%. But audio files and different images do not have unnecessary data, so their total volume in the archive remains unchanged.

But this does not mean that if the photos do not shrink, then they do not need to be archived for sending. After all, one file is much easier to send than 20. And the recipient will be easier to download from the mail server only one file.

So, we know that you can not attach a folder to an email. And so we go into it, select all the files with the mouse and click "Archive". They are collected in our file and ready to be sent.
