We study Ulyanovsk. Museum of Civil Aviation

The museum of local lore and art, the museum-preserve "Rodina" and the Lenin memorial - there are a lot of interesting and cognitive tourist places in the Ulyanovsk region. But the most popular among the guests is the Museum of Civil Aviation History, where unique exhibits stand out in the open air - rare models of aircraft and helicopters, from which the history of Russian aviation began.

The whole story under the open sky

The most spectacular part of the exposition is located at the airfield of Brateevka (Ulyanovsk). The Civil Aviation History Museum occupies an area of 18 hectares and offers for inspection over 30 aircraft. The exposition shows the history of the development of Russian aviation - there are a lot of passenger aircraft and helicopters of different types: from "AK-1" to "Tu-114".

The main part of the exhibits is located in the halls of the museum located on the territory of the city's higher aviation school. They rightly can be proud of Ulyanovsk. The Civil Aviation Museum belongs to the school and is its pride. Many samples of equipment were found, restored and reconstructed by the students. Now the museum's storerooms contain more than 9,000 different exhibits: from small models to genuine parts and units of flying equipment. Of great interest are rare, and sometimes unique technical documents, drawings and diagrams. And on air trainers classes are held to train modern pilots.

The most interesting exhibits

The Tu-116 aircraft, board number 76462, was issued specially for NS Khrushchev in 1957. The bort was developed on the basis of a bomber and was issued in two copies. Today one of them is exhibited in Ulyanovsk.

Supersonic "Tu-144" is unique in that from several serial copies only two were engaged in passenger transportation and performed civil flights. One of them, under No. 77110, can be seen at the airfield of Brateevo (Ulyanovsk). The Civil Aviation Museum has one of the rarest aircraft - the first in the world bomber "ANT-4", designed as a monoplane. It was released in 1929. It was on him that the historic flight of the USSR-the United States was made.

The Tu-104 liner occupies a special place in the museum exposition. The first flight on it was made back in 1955, at that time he became the first in the world and the only supersonic civilian aircraft.

Creating a museum

The complex began work not so long ago - the first guests visited the aircraft exhibition in 1983. Since that time the museum has considerably enriched its exposition, the majority of exhibits have arrived to the exhibition site on their own after the full end of the flying resource. Immediately at the museum was created a scientific and training complex, which houses a documentary exhibition and flight simulators for training cadets.

The first exhibit was the Mi-1 helicopter, developed in 1948. It has established almost 50 world records for speed, accuracy and range of flights.

The Museum of Civil Aviation History (Ulyanovsk) became part of the Association of Technical Museums of Russia, and in 1989 received the deserved title of the National Museum.

The nine most valuable exhibits of the museum were recognized as monuments of science and technology.

Modernity and development

The content of such a unique technical collection is complicated, troublesome and expensive. A simple painting of one aircraft costs hundreds of thousands of rubles, if you comply with all the rules and technologies, that is, to restore the protective layer in the hangars, the cost of work increases several times. Restoring the interior is even more difficult. Many technical details need to be re-created, developed and installed under certain models and conditions.

All the work has to be done by the employees of the museum and cadets of the school. The museum's exposition can and should be constantly supplemented with new exhibits, while aircraft factories and design bureaus are ready to cooperate and assist the museum's management, but the transportation of one aircraft is a complicated and extremely expensive process. Negotiations are currently under way with the Moscow Aviation Museum on the transportation of a rare Il-14 to Ulyanovsk. The Museum of Civil Aviation constantly makes every effort to ensure that the unique collection looked dignified and constantly updated.

The order of the museum

It works all days of the week, except Monday, the Museum of Civil Aviation (Ulyanovsk). Working hours: weekdays from 10:00 to 17:00 h and up to 16:00 h on weekends.

The airfield Brateevka is located on the western outskirts of the city. Always warmly welcomes his guests Ulyanovsk.

Civil Aviation Museum: how to get there

The museum can be reached by fixed-route taxi No. 91, 12, 66.

All the planes exhibited in the museum can be inspected not only from the outside - everyone can sit at the helm of unique aircraft.
