Water lilies - decoration of any water body

Many people had to observe the most beautiful plants that decorate water bodies. These are water lilies. It is not for nothing that the people are given sweet names in this plant: the queen of ponds, the water-lily, the child of the sun. Many legends and tales mention a water lily. There are more than 40 species of this plant. It is found in all corners of the planet.

Many varieties are bred by breeders. This is both water resistant and thermophilic plants, which have flowers of various sizes and shades. Due to selection, some varieties are even cultivated in the open waters of Northern Europe even in winter. Their roots do not die as a result of icing.

Water lilies, growing in the wild, bloom once a year for a month. However, cultural varieties can delight the beauty of flowers all season from early summer to late autumn.

Water lilies prefer clean water bodies: lakes, ponds, river bays. They are used for landscape design. These are suitable plants for the pond. Usually they are planted in ponds with standing water, where there will be enough sunlight.

The landing is carried out in May or early June. For this, you can use boxes, baskets, which are installed in ponds, on the bottom. There are other ways of breeding, but this is the most acceptable and convenient. If there is a chance of strong frosts, then there is more chance that the plant will not die. In addition, you can easily move the container with a lily in a warmer place for storage. To prevent the death of the plant, you can sprinkle the box with sawdust.

Capacity for planting should be lined with sacking. It is necessary that there are slots or cells in the box. Then fill it with mud or clay. Make sure that there are no stones and branches. This plant does not require the presence of peat or compost in the soil.

When transplanting the lily, you must remove the old leaves and trim the roots that have a fibrous structure. The roots of the plant (their upper part) should rise slightly above the ground.

Although water lilies are deep-water plants, they should not initially be dropped too deeply. The capacity should be set so that the kidney on the rhizome was just below the upper water level, and the young shoots floated on the surface. When the lily leaves new shoots and grows up a little, it must be moved to a deeper place.

With proper care, the lily blooms the next year. Usually flowering lasts from June to September. Each flower pleases its beauty for about four days.

In order for the plant to grow and develop, it is necessary to transplant or divide it with a frequency of every few years. This is a simple process. To do this, pull the lily from the box and remove the old roots and leaves. Then the rhizome must be cut or broken into several parts. Each of them must contain strong young roots. If possible, places of slices should be sprinkled with sulfur powder. Then they place the water lilies in new containers.

Transplantation of a water lily is usually carried out in May.

The flowers of this plant are very beautiful. Winter-resistant varieties have leaves and flowers that lie on the surface of the water, covering it with a carpet. In tropical varieties, they slightly rise above the water.

The leaves of this plant are very dense and have a heart shape. Their dimensions are not the same, just like the color (green, burgundy, with veins and spots).

Flowers lilies are closed at night and in cloudy weather. There are no special pests in this plant. If it does not have enough sunlight, then the leaves become smaller.

To the water lily pleased with its beauty to the fullest, it is necessary to plant it in places with a lot of sunlight. With sufficient light, the lily with beautiful flowers and large leaves stretching on the water surface is a very aesthetic sight.
