Vuoksa - the lake of the Leningrad region

Vuoksa is a lake that is located on the Karelian Isthmus of the Leningrad Region, one hundred and thirty kilometers from St. Petersburg. It is located in the south-west direction from Priozersk.

A bit of history

Mentioned reservoir in the Novgorod annals, and then it was called Uzerevo. The word came from the Karelian Uuzijärvi. Translated as a "new lake".

Until the 17th century, the population near the coast of Vuoksi was mostly of Karelian origin, later it was replaced by Finnish. Then there was a new name for the lake - Uusiyarvi. It remained active until the middle of the 20th century. Later, the reservoir received a modern name - Lake Vuoksa.

It is interesting that in these places in the 80's they shot the film "Aliens do not go here".

Description

The total area of the reservoir is 108 square meters. Km, its sixth part falls on numerous islands.

Vuoksa is a lake of glacial origin. It was formed several thousand years ago. At that time, the glacier, retreating, left behind itself deep furrows on the shores of lakes and polished sections of granite, which were called "sheep's foreheads."

The existing map of the depth of Lake Vuoks shows that the maximum depression is 25 m, the average depth is five meters. The bottom is covered with a large layer of mud of brown or gray color and numerous stones. Perhaps, because of this, the water here is, rather, dirty than clean. The banks are meandering, complex, with many capes, bays.

The lake is fed by river flow. The water level varies depending on the season of the year to 80 cm, the maximum value reaches in May. A major tributary of the reservoir is the river of the same name.

The lake is very beautiful and picturesque. It always attracted the attention of tourists and fishermen. And for St. Petersburg has long been a favorite holiday destination.

Islands of the lake

You can spend time not only on the banks of the reservoir, but also on other parts of its land. There are several hundred islands on the lake. The biggest is Oleny, he is also called Losin (before the beginning of the 20th century the second variant was official). It is located in the southern part, the length is about 5 km, width - 4 km.

The island is inhabited all year round by only two people in the building of the former camp site. There is also a pier for boats. In the warm season on the banks of the Deer Island tourists and fishermen are resting.

Most of the island's territory is covered with forests of spruce and pine, the rest of the zone is reserved for agricultural land, mostly mowing. There are many roads here, and you can get to it with the help of the ferry.

Other large islands are the Rocky, Nikitinsky, Bear, Hilly, Wonderful, Pull, Big Medium and Light.

The most unusual is Bullfinch, it has an interesting shape in the form of a rocky ridge with a dense forest. In width the island reaches several tens of meters, and in length - several hundred.

Like the Deer, pine, spruce, birch, aspen, gray and black alder, maple and lime grow here.

Plesy

Vuoksa is a lake consisting of separate, but interconnected reaches. This Priozersky, Sinevsky, Nekrasovsky and Krotovsky. The first is considered to be the shallowest, its maximum depth is only 5 m. Nekrasovskiy reaches in the very center has a fifteen-meter depression. It is located between the islands of the Great Middle and Oleny, stretches to the strait, where it separates the northern part of the latter from the mainland.

The next one is Krotovsky. It occupies the largest part of the lake. Its boundaries are Svetly, Bear, Deer Islands and others, which have no name. In some places its depth reaches 15-25 m, but in general it is no more than 5 m. From the eastern shore a meandering narrow depression departs, the bottom of which is at a distance of 10 m from the surface.

The fourth is Sinevsky. It is located between the island of Oleny, the peninsula Maryin and the shores of the lake. Near the village of Sinevo.

Lake Vuoksa: rest

The territory adjacent to the pond has long been popular with tourists. Nature in these places is very beautiful. Freely and widely stood tall, slender pine trees, almost without undergrowth, their feet covered with moss and lichen, here grow bilberries and bearberry. In the forest you can find many mushrooms.

Some vacationers prefer to live in tents, others stop at hotels, on recreation centers. On their territory there are playgrounds, attractions, football and volleyball fields.

In summer, you can go boating on the lake, in winter - on snowmobiles, skis or on a skating rink. In bad weather, it is not worth taking walks on large stretches, it is better to choose the road between the islands.

Because of the large flow of tourists, the territory of the reservoir is very polluted, sometimes it is difficult to find a clean place.

Vuoksa - a lake with its sights, one of them can be seen in the Rybachiy Bay. These are small rocks - vertical cliffs of granite, located near the water.

Lake Vuoksa: fishing

The pond is also very popular among lovers to sit in silence with a fishing rod. It is believed that the district has the most grain places in the lake Vuoksa. Fishing (reviews confirm this) almost always ends here with a good catch. With special training you can catch a fairly rare breed.

More often than not, the fish that are characteristic of the northwestern lakes come across: pike, perch, roach, bream, less often salmon, trout and whitefish. Despite such abundance, newcomers here find it difficult because of great competition.

The most common is a perch, sometimes quite large in size. In winter, it can be caught with almost any bait.
