Uppercott is a powerful weapon in the boxer's arsenal

Apperkot - this is a powerful blow, which is applied on the inner vertical trajectory. From English this word is translated literally as "rubanut from below upwards", which perfectly conveys the purpose of this technique. It is noteworthy that it is the uppercut that is considered one of the two most powerful blows along with the cross. The fist, with impact, is turned with the fingers inward.

How to beat an uppercut

This blow is applied mainly from the close range. In this case, the trajectory of the fist's flight goes along a vertical line - from the chest of the beating upwards. Most often the goal of such a blow is the opponent's chin, which may not be covered from such a sweeping attack. Most boxers prefer to put the block, placing gloves near the cheeks and cheekbones vertically. Therefore, the uppercut is able to slip through the space between hands. In the photo above, we see a fine example of the technique of striking a Mexican lightweight Juan Manuel Marquez in a fight with Michael Katsidis.

El Dinamita also likes to apply this kind of blow, perfectly combining the left uppercut with the right cross. This tactic can be traced in almost all of his battles, especially in confrontation with left-handed Filipino Manni Pacquiao.

Uppercuts along the trunk

Do not forget about uppercuts that are aimed at the torso. The aim of such attacks is the vulnerable solar plexus, liver and spleen. In this case, work on the body allows you to knock down the pace and breathing of the opponent, which adversely affects endurance in the second half of the fight. Many boxers are building their tactics on constant attacks on the body.

The uppercut over the trunk is best applied when the enemy takes a breath. At this point, his ribs rise, leaving the organs bare. Of course, it is not so easy to calculate the opponent's breathing, however, this method often led to the premature termination of the bout. An excellent example is an uppercut, a photo of which you can see below (Lucian Bute's attack). Romanian managed to coolly apply to the area of the opponent's stomach, which led to a knockdown.

Cases of knockouts blow to the body of the history of boxing countless. For example, the famous American record holder, former world champion in several weight classes, Roy Jones Jr. adored to begin or complete his combinations with blows to the body: hook, uppercut in the trunk area forced opponents to drop their hands. Sometimes, and vice versa - blows to the head distracted the opponent's attention, and Roy began to process the opponent's body.

Uppercott is a treacherous blow

This becomes clear if you understand some aspects of the technique of applying an uppercut. Earlier it was said that the uppercut made its way along the internal trajectory, but not everyone understands what it really means.

In the photo above middleweight Brandon Rios holds a right uppercut in the cheekbone of American Peterson. The controversy well conveys the focus of the views of both boxers. The Rios impact for Peterson is out of sight, which aggravates the reaction of the brain and the motor apparatus to the resulting shake.

This means that the element of surprise adds damage to the applied uppercut. The fist of the striker becomes visible to the enemy only in the last moments, so it is more difficult to react to such a blow. Not to mention the uppercuts on the body, which differ in their lightning fastness and the impossibility of parrying, since the hand of the striking boxer remains out of the opponent's field of vision in 99% of cases.

How to counter an uppercut?

Uppercott is a treacherous blow, also because such an attack is easily parried, because to avoid hitting the boxer you just need to pull your head back slightly. In this case, the fighter who throws an uppercut remains unprotected, driven away by the inertia of the strike. Therefore, the cases of knockouts after an inaccurately applied uppercut are not less than with exact hits. There were even funny cases, for example, when the British heavyweight Tyson Fury missed and dealt a similar blow to himself.

Uppercut in the technique of mixed martial arts

Uppercott is a technique that is used in the context of the MMA technique, where it can be used in circumstances that do not allow it to be used in a boxing ring.

It's about the technique of fighting dirty boxing. This term assumes active work in clinching, when both fighters are in the rack (as in the photo above). This position is not forbidden in the competition for mixed martial arts, so rivals tend to inflict maximum damage to each other from a short distance. Often paired with uppercuts are used by elbows, which are very effective in clinching.

The parameters of local gloves should be taken into account, which are much smaller. This allows for more punctual strokes that are difficult to block, given the area of the hand-held inventory.
