How to snowboard - a bit of theory, the rest is just practice

Many are fascinated by such sports as snowboarding and downhill skiing. Only 20 years ago, a few could afford such a pleasure. The situation began to change as due to the construction of new slopes and ski resorts in the country, and the availability of equipment necessary for skiing.

And if with skiing everything is theoretically clear, then developing a snowboard for beginners is a real mystery.

How to ride a snowboard? This question torments those who do not know how, but want to learn. Of course, it is better to entrust training to an experienced instructor or friend who has been riding confidently for a long time, but at least to understand the theory better before the first skiing experience.

Clothes and equipment

The first, not entirely related to skating, but necessary, is the choice of clothes and protective measures. Clothing is better to buy a specialized, not getting wet and not constraining the movement. A set of clothes should be added with a helmet, knee pads and protective shorts, as the fall in the learning process is inevitable, it is better to protect yourself from injuries.

Boots are selected in such a way that they rigidly fix the leg and do not press. Hanging on the leg of the boot is traumatic. It's more comfortable to put a shoe on a high sock.

A bit of theory

Before snowboarding, or rather, start to master it, you need to determine your leading leg, because depending on this, the mounts are adjusted, and it is determined which leg will be ahead during the ride. One of the options is to slip on the floor (like on skates) and see which foot will take the first step.

Mount snowboard, which are located approximately at the width of the shoulders, you need to tighten sufficiently tightly that the shoes in them do not move, and they should not press. After the snowboard was dressed for the first time, you can stand on it and jump a little to determine if the fasteners are properly fastened. At this preparatory stages are over.

Training in skating

There are several methods of training, but there is no debate about how to properly snowboard, everything is transparent: the legs should be slightly bent at the knees, hands help to manage. By the way, the shoes are made in such a way that straightening the legs in them is not a simple task. However, the technique of snowboarding appears much later than the ability to ride on it, and is placed either by the instructor, or comes on an intuitive level.

Basic Skills

  1. One of the basic skills that you need to master before you go snowboarding is to stand on a level surface. If it turned out, you can move to a small slope for beginners, where you have to learn to balance and master riding on the edges. There are two of them on the board: if you stand on it, putting your feet on the mounts, the front will be located on the side of the cape shoes, and the back on the side of the heels.
  2. For the first day of classes, it will be amazing if you can learn how to scrape down the slope in the back edge and ride the "herringbone", moving from side to side across it. In the future, it is necessary to master the inhibition, which is carried out by the toe of the feet. So, if you slightly unbend them, the board starts moving forward, bending - stopping.
  3. Mastering the front edge. The previous paragraph described how to move in the back edge, now the same thing needs to be done, facing the slope and standing on the front edge. First, sliding down on the cante is mastered, while control is also carried out by the toes, then you need to learn how to ride the herringbone and brake. It is psychologically difficult for many to start skating on the front edge, and basically the first time the movement is carried out in tandem with the instructor, holding hands. It just seems like it's easy, in practice it may take several days to acquire these skills, but then a sense of balance will come and training will go faster.
  4. Driving by rotation, which is achieved through transitions from the front to the back edge and back. Such a spinning in a waltz on a snowboard ... To make a turn, you need to slightly shift the body weight in the direction of rotation, as if drawing a turn, while slightly bending the toes of the feet. To reverse the transition to the front edge, you must do the same, only with the other leg.
  5. Exercise, mastering which, you can gradually move to independent skating on gentle slopes, in fact, based on the previous one, only the board does not need to be fully deployed, but it is necessary to learn how to poke the weight of the body from the front to the back edge, but always remaining the leading foot forward.

When the five basic exercises listed above are mastered, it can be said that the initial training in skating was successful, and then it is only necessary to practice them and perform new ones to improve their style.

Thus, you do not need to guess how to ride a snowboard - it's not so difficult as it seems, you just need not be afraid to fall and show a little perseverance.
