Ufa Institute of Eye Diseases refers to the oldest ophthalmological institutions in Russia and the entire post-Soviet space. The main activities of this multidisciplinary state organization are science, treatment and counseling, production and education in this field. UV Research Institute of Eye Diseases is engaged in the development of fundamental and applied problems in the field of ophthalmology, conducts effective treatment with the active application of high technologies of all types of cataracts, vitreous and retinal pathologies, and refractive surgery.

History of occurrence

The famous institute began its existence in 1926, when the old eye hospital with 50 beds was transformed into the Bashkir trachomatous research institute with the purpose of actively combating these common diseases at that time. Becoming a hospital during the war in the period from 1941 to 1945, later the institute continued its work as a scientific organization, and already in 1965 it became known as the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR. Establishment of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Belarus, and after - the Russian Academy of Medical Science, the institute became since 1992.

When applying to the adult department, the patient receives qualified counseling of specialists, undergoes certain diagnostics, and he receives a medical report indicating the diagnosis and a list of recommended treatment. In a number of cases, a one-day examination of the patient is not enough, and therefore it is recommended that he be registered in a hospital for a detailed comprehensive examination.

The children's department of the Ufa Research Institute of Eye Diseases accepts free small patients with various problems: eyelid pathology and lacrimal ducts, myopia, strabismus, astigmatism, cataracts, glaucoma and other ophthalmic diseases, as well as suspicions of them. Every year the number of operations to remove cataracts (congenital, traumatic, age-related) is increasing with minimal cuts and subsequent IOL implantation. One of the first institutions in the Russian Federation, where practical use of medical and economic standards for cataract surgery was introduced in a minimally invasive manner, was the Research Institute of Eye Diseases. A high therapeutic effect was shown by microinvasive drainage operations with respect to glaucoma: valves and drainages of different models are used for this.

With great success in practice, scientific inventions for the treatment of degenerative diseases of the cornea of the eye are used - UV irradiation with riboflavin during cross-linking, followed by implantation of corneal rings and segments. It was in the Ufa Scientific Research Institute of Eye Diseases that the unique epiceratoplasty technology was developed in the keratoconus, which was included in the top ten most significant achievements of the world ophthalmology (according to the well-known magazine Ophthalmology times).

In the department of inpatient substitution technologies, neoplasms are successfully removed, blepharoplasty is performed. In addition, dacryocystitis is treated here with a laser with minimal trauma.

Pleopto-orthoptic treatment of childhood problems of strabismus, refractive anomalies of various etiologies is also successfully carried out with the help of laser surgery. Highly qualified care for children in the hospital is from the first days of life.

The effectiveness of surgical treatment in the children's department is characterized by the highest rates due to the use of new approaches in the surgery of glaucoma, congenital cataract and retinopathy in premature babies.
