Diopters are ... An important aspect of eye health

The rapid development of digital technologies, the triumphant march of which is observed all over the planet, leads to the fact that all people work with things that are very close to them, almost right under their noses. But earlier the man's horizons were limited only by the blue of the sky above his head and the horizon line. This explains the pathology of the organs of vision, the functioning of which takes place in an unusual mode for them. After all, whether it's a computer, a tablet or even a book - eyes focus on a nearby object and eventually get used to working in a similar range of distances. As a result, far from immediately they may need correction with the help of optics, which is most often used by contact lenses or glasses with a rim.

Principles of the application of optics

It is these accessories that have the necessary refractive power that helps the rays of the light stream to be focused at the required point on the fundus. For these means of correction, the unit of measurement of the optical power is diopters. This is a quantity whose physical meaning lies in the fact that after crossing the convex lens all the solar radiation waves are projected in a single place, the position of which is determined by the displacement of the refractive medium by a specific distance.

Principles of the structure and functioning of the translucent matter of the eye

In human organs of vision, there are natural mechanisms that are capable of providing linear vibrations of the natural lens (lens) along its visual axis. These changes in size have small values (usually no more than 1/50 or 1/75 meters), but they provide the necessary optical power and clarity of the image. After all, depending on the applied effort and intensity, the refractive index of the lens is not more than 60-71 diopters (these are nominal values, the deviations from which are already called diseases). The principle of functioning of this visual organ is that as a result of changes in the optical strength of all refracting media of the eye, an image is formed on the retina and the fundus of the eye. If the focusing of the rays is carried out further than necessary, then the person will not receive a clear picture, since the available space simply does not suffice for its construction. Such a deviation is called hyperopia, and with it the transmitted visual information is projected beyond the boundaries of the retina. The opposite case is nearsightedness, with this disease happening on the contrary, and the formation of the picture is too early, as a result - early focusing and a vague image of the removed objects.

Selection of tools for correction

To reduce the visual load, a person needs to seek advice from an ophthalmologist. This specialist will carry out the necessary studies and tests and perform a primary examination of the eyeball. By special tables it will be determined: in what state is the vision, dioptries can be in both "plus" and "minus". Based on the parameters obtained, the specialist will decide on the recommended methods of prevention or their combination with intensive therapy, which will be aimed at preventing irreversible changes in the eye. In simple cases, everything can be absolutely different. The doctor will limit the correction, picking up only the appropriate amount of optical power - diopter for glasses. What will this give the patient? Preventive measures will allow to preserve his health and independently control the development of the disease. After all, diopters are the main indicator of destructive processes, which it is better to observe and keep in check than to give them complete freedom.

Vision without limitations

After the medical manipulations and the acquisition of the necessary lenses the patient will stop noticing his illness and will be able to enjoy full vision. However, if the deviations from the norm in the eyes are insignificant (not more than ± 1 unit of optical power), even these measures may prove premature. Since in such cases, the eyes will not have increased fatigue and excess diopter - this is not a panacea. After all, maintaining the tone of the eyes is important to carry out in complex, and not only optical methods.
