Types and types of LED tapes: description and characteristics

A new breakthrough in the world of luminaires is associated with the appearance of LEDs, and especially their ribbon design. Types of LED strips are amazing with the ability to create original luminous surfaces of any configuration. Elements are suitable for the design of arbors, swimming pools, aquariums, billboards and lighting of living rooms.

Design features

The light equipment under consideration is widely spread in the sphere of advertising and trade. Types of LED tapes can be divided into the following categories:

  1. Flexible PCB.
  2. Strips covered with silicone (make it possible to protect the structure from moisture and deformation).
  3. Figurative variations used to decorate carousels, holiday attributes and other decorations.

The standard length of produced tapes does not exceed five meters. This is due to the presence of thin conductors with low-voltage power, which, when applied, will glow with varying intensity.

Fixing the tape to almost any surface is carried out through an adhesive base with a protective coating. On a rough surface, it is desirable to attach the strips with a double-sided tape or intermediate fasteners.

Types of LED ribbons: brief description

The circuit design includes chip LEDs, correction resistors, connection conductors and contact platforms that provide power to adjacent bands. A reliable connection is provided through the connectors of the LED system. As an alternative, welding wires in the standard way.

Then the tape is cut into pieces, which are required for installation. Cut the elements by the length along the contours of the required figures according to the location of the centers. The obtained segments are fed by the same voltage indices, their ends are identical in purpose. This means that the power can be connected to any of them, combined into groups or function in angular and other curly compositions.

Characteristics

LED strips, types (types) of which can be divided into several parameters, are primarily distinguished by a current supply. Designs for 12 and 24 volts are provided. Luminescent devices are connected through special power supplies. Products are produced that are designed for a standard 220 volt mains voltage. They are connected through adapters, corresponding to the power reorganization and power consumption of the device. Usually the strip with LEDs in the latter version is placed in a transparent tube, protected from moisture and other external factors.

Types of LED strips for moisture protection are divided into the following groups:

  1. Unprotected options that are operated indoors.
  2. Modifications designed for installation in rooms with high humidity and outdoors.
  3. Especially water-resistant series, working at full immersion in water. Used to illuminate aquariums or swimming pools.

Differences in color

Types of LED ribbons by color fall into two categories. The first includes elements of a monochrome type. They are made in red, blue, yellow, white or green color.

The second group is universal (RGB). These tapes can be adjusted by the color of the glow. The required shade is obtained by combining three LEDs. The main colors are:

  • Red (R).
  • Green (G).
  • Blue (B).

Elements are as close as possible to each other, so their glow is mixed. When changing the intensity of a diode, you can achieve any color gamut. To adjust these tapes, special controllers are used, which regulate the color according to the installed program.

Since there is no white color in the LED strip, it is obtained by coating the blue light bulbs with a phosphor. After a while, it burns out, and the design glows a dull bluish color.

Types of LED strip profiles

According to the chips used, the bands are divided into the following size groups:

  1. SMD (SMD) -3028 - 3 x 2.8 millimeters.
  2. SMD-3528 - 3,5 x 2,8 mm.
  3. SMD-2835 - 2.8 x 3.5 mm.
  4. 5050 - 5 x 5 millimeters.

The chips are placed evenly along the length of the strip, and their density is not uniform, which allows you to adjust the brightness of the entire tape. As a unit of measurement, the indicator of the total number of chips for a length of one hundred millimeters (from 30 to 120 pieces) is used.

Types of power supplies of the LED tape are divided into two classes: analog or digital controllers, which help to integrate the work of a large number of light elements under the general control unit. Given the principle of the device, knowing its power and characteristics, you can choose a kit for various purposes (from the backlight of the car dashboard to lighting the whole house).

Marking and decoding of notation

All manufacturers mark the light strips. It turns out a sequence of digital and alphabetic codes. The table shows the types of LED ribbons, depending on the ciphers and symbols.

It is worth noting that very often LEDs are used to improve the car's light elements or interior lighting, which makes it possible to achieve more intense glow when saving energy.

Features

In some bands, standard diodes are replaced by semiconductors having increased brightness and radiation characteristics. Such structures are close to the maximum in light temperature, they are larger in size than the usual ones. Their main advantage is the creation of a saturated light flux, which makes it possible to use tapes as the main source of illumination inside buildings. It is worth noting that such LEDs are characterized by high energy consumption and are more quickly heated during operation.
