Tropical cirrus: home care

From the subtropical forests of the island of Madagascar and the mainland of Africa came cyperus. Care at home for him does not cause special difficulties, for this reason, many growers can not deny themselves the pleasure of growing on the windowsill this exotic miracle. In natural conditions, cyperus grows in marshy areas, near rivers. In ancient times the Egyptians made mats and baskets out of it, built boats. The rhizomes of some varieties, reminiscent of almonds, were used in cooking. But most often the plant was used as raw material for making paper.

In nature there are not one dozen varieties of the cyperus, its leaves are narrow, wide or even hairy, the color is light or dark green, and there is also a two-colored cyperus. Care at home requires maintaining a constant moisture. In natural conditions, the plant grows near the water, often its roots are in a swamp or river, so it grows up to 3 m in height. Indoor specimens most often do not exceed 60 cm, if conditions are created that are as close to natural as possible, then they rise to 1.5 m.

In the group composition, along with other colors, cyperus looks perfect. Care (photos show how a healthy plant should look) is to prepare a suitable soil, maintain good lighting, high humidity and regular watering. The plant has a negative attitude to dry air, since it has a high humidity in its homeland. For this reason, it should be regularly sprayed, put a container with water near the pot. If you do not adhere to such rules, the leaves very quickly lose decorativeness, their tips will dry up. In the worst case umbrellas will start to turn yellow and disappear, and then you have to cut off the root of the cyperus.

Care at home requires regular watering. The substrate can not be allowed to dry out - the cyperus can normally feel itself only in the waterlogged soil. In winter, the pallet must be filled, and in the summer and at all the pot can be put in a container of water. If the house has an artificial pond, then the flower vase should be placed in such a way that only umbrellas remain on the surface. This, on the one hand, will serve as a spectacular decoration, and on the other - it is good in such an atmosphere feels cyperus.

Home care involves the constant airing of the room where the plant is located. In the warm season, the flower can be carried to the balcony or garden, it responds to fresh air. In summer, the temperature is about 20 ° C, and in winter it can withstand cooling to 10 ° C.

In frequent transplants the plant does not need, the pot should be replaced if it grew from the former one. The pot is best to choose high and narrow. Some growers, not knowing how to care for the cyperus, make serious mistakes, and as a result, the plant loses its decorativeness. Tsiperus very persistent, if his umbrellas have turned yellow, they need to be cut to the root, and the flower itself will recover until the next season.
