Treatment of rotavirus infection in children

Rotavirus infection is an acute intestinal disease, manifested in the defeat of the gastrointestinal tract by human rotavirus. Both adults and children get sick of it, the latter, however, more often, since the immunity is not yet strong enough and can not withstand rotavirus.

Where can you catch this infection? First of all, getting infected from another, already sick person. Also you can get sick if you do not wash your hands, drink polluted water, eat unwashed food, etc. Non-observance of personal hygiene leads to the fact that one of the members of the family or collective first starts to hurt, and then everyone else can easily pick up the rotavirus infection.

Rotavirus infection symptoms in children is quite pronounced. As a rule, everything starts with a rise in temperature to 390C and above, which remains elevated for the next 3-5 days. Leading symptoms are frequent diarrhea (up to 20 times a day), vomiting, nausea, a decrease or a complete lack of appetite, flatulence. The child is sluggish, weak and drowsy. If we talk about diarrhea, then this is the most important signal about the presence of rotavirus infection. At the beginning of the disease, the child can complain about terrible pain in the abdomen, but later they either fade or disappear altogether. In young children, the symptoms of a cold may be attendant: sore throat, runny nose, cough, and the treatment of rotavirus infection in children is somewhat complicated by the fact that parents begin to treat a cold.

If we talk about children who are breastfed, they almost never get sick. This is due to the fact that with the mother's milk they receive antibodies that do not give rise to rotavirus infection. But children on artificial feeding are among those who can catch this infection.

What should be the treatment of rotavirus infection in children? In fact, this infection is not treated, and all the so-called therapeutic actions are aimed at alleviating the patient's condition. The first thing to do is show the child to the doctor. And although many say that this disease can be treated independently, for safety it is better to consult a specialist in order to exclude the development of more serious pathologies. Treatment of rotavirus infection in children is selected individually, so as not to aggravate the course of the disease. After the delivery of all necessary tests, the child can be sent home, where first of all a quiet environment should be created for him.

As already mentioned above, there are no universal medicines for this disease. It usually passes on its own within 1 week. But for the child to bear it all, he needs help. First of all, he must begin to follow a diet, during which the intake of heavy food, including dairy products (except for sour-milk products), will be excluded. Nutrition is frequent, but in small portions, so as not to cause vomiting. Basically it is rice porridge and chicken broth.

Rotavirus infection in children, the consequences, as such, do not involve, except for one. During illness the child loses a lot of fluid, and if it does not start replenishing, then dehydration may occur. And this is more than serious. To avoid this, the child should drink a small amount of liquid every 30-40 minutes, preferably 2-3 tablespoons. Still it is possible to dissolve in a glass of water a bag of a rehydrone and also to give it to drink to the child. Of additional funds, ancillary drugs, smectite and other enzyme agents may be of assistance.

Treatment of rotavirus infection in children should be carried out with great care. Do not resort to the help of those medicines that were not prescribed by a doctor. Parents need to know that the disease is on their own, so it's important to keep calm, do not panic and surround the child with care and love.
