The Senegalese parrot is the best companion

Today, very many people want to have a small companion. And there is no better choice than a Senegalese parrot. Feedback from buyers about this bird is only the most positive. A small parrot (about 20 centimeters) can become a reliable friend and companion for you. He, like no other, is able to understand you, your jokes, laughter and voice. Imitate with a funny voice, over 2 minutes to perform more than 20 different teams - and this is not all that the Senegalese parrot can do.

The price of a bird varies from 250 to 700 US dollars. But, believe me, the parrot justifies this money for 100!

Where come from

Its name was a Senegalese long-winged parrot received from its habitat - the African state of Senegal. In general, Africa is the birthplace of a bird.

The largest concentration of parakeets can be observed in the southwestern and western parts of the continent. Wet forests and savannahs of Guinea, Nigeria, Cameroon and Senegal - that's where the expanse is for them. Nests of birds prefer not to grow in the crowns of trees, like the rest of their relatives, but in hollows. They want to be distinguished in everything.

Appearance

The Senegalese parrot is painted very beautifully and brightly. His wings and back have a dark green color, and the head - a gray tint. The abdomen of the parrots is of two colors: yellow or orange. It depends on the subspecies. The bird has very beautiful and unusual eyes: black with a bright yellow iris. They seem to see the interlocutor through and through. In the eyes of the parrot you can even determine in what mood it is. Senegal has a black and sharp beak. How sharp it is, you can be sure if you scare or angry the bird. The tail is a dark green color.

The adult Senegalese parrot grows to 20 centimeters. But its small size does not affect intellect in any way. By intelligence and ingenuity, he is not inferior to a large parrot zhako. It weighs about 150 grams.

Senegal is a long-liver. And at home he lives much longer than in the wild. There have been cases when birds survived to 50 years.

Classification

In nature, there are three subspecies of Senegalese parrots. One is the main subspecies, it is called the species itself. This is due to the fact that it was discovered much earlier than the other two and immediately received the main name.

The difference between the subspecies of the Senegalese parrot is the color of the belly. Each subspecies is different.

So, the main subspecies - senegalus - has a yellow or orange-yellow abdomen. Parrots of the subspecies versteri can boast of red-yellow, and even completely red. And the birds of the subspecies of mesotypus have a rich orange color.

Also there are slight differences in the color of the plumage. More precisely, in its brightness and saturation. In the main subspecies, it is mostly green. The subspecies versteri feathers are much darker. And parakeets of the subspecies mesotypus, on the contrary, paler.

How to determine the age of a bird

For this, it is necessary to know the following several factors:

1. Up to 6 months in the Senegalese parrots, the eyes are completely black.

2. Up to 1 year, the abdomen will have a lemon tint. Birds older - yellow-orange.

3. The older the Senegalese parrot, the brighter and more saturated will be the iris of his eyes.

In general, after the bird is 6 months old, it is very difficult to determine its age. With precision this can only be done by DNA analysis. All other methods are of an individual nature and allow only approximately to determine which of the parrots in the school are older and who is younger.

Content

The older the parrot, the harder it is to tame. Therefore, it is best to take very small children - up to 6 months. The Senegalese parrot is a very smart bird. In its intelligence, it is not inferior to the larger representatives - Jaco and Are. Senegal can easily distinguish one person from another. These birds are very attached to their masters. But other people are not so kindly treated. In general, Senegalians can not stand competition. They do not get along well with other kinds of parrots. Therefore, it is better to keep them separately.

The Senegalese parrot speaks quite a lot and clearly. He perfectly conveys the intonation and emotional tone of speech. This is beyond the strength, for example, of wavy parrots. Senegal has a quiet and peculiar voice. Someone he might not like. Therefore, before buying a bird, listen to what she says.

These parrots are mobile and like spacious cells. The most optimal size for their future house is 80-90-80 centimeters. It's like cages for big parrots like Jacob. Be sure to equip a dark corner in which the bird will hide in case of danger. Well, of course, the arrangement. Place in the cage as many thick branches and branches as possible so that the parrot can stitch its sharp claws. Also put a small bath with water. Senegalians like to swim.

What to feed

First of all, it is necessary to know that the parrot is contraindicated. This is protein food. Do not feed the bird with eggs, bread or cheese. This can lead to serious illnesses. Also limit the nuts - this is the direct way to obesity.

It is best to feed Senegal with special feed for medium birds, which can be purchased at any pet store. Also include in its diet fresh vegetables, berries and fruits. Parrots in the wild like to eat flowers. But be careful here, as many of the indoor plants are poisonous to birds. Necessarily let's parrot grass and twigs. In the spring, you can drink it with birch sap.

In addition to the food trough, there must be a second bowl with mineral stones in the cage. They are simply necessary to ensure that the food in the bird is well processed and digested.
