The norm of leukocytes in the urine

I do not want to hurt at all, but not everything is determined only by our desire. Sometimes you have to lie a day or two with a temperature. And here it is important that this condition be as short as possible. How is this possible? First, competent treatment, but most importantly - as soon as possible to identify and classify the disease, because under the general symptoms of banal weakness, fatigue and headache can hide some serious pathology.

Today a lot of tools and methods are used for diagnostics in the shortest possible time. Not so modern, but simple and accessible are laboratory methods (that is, general tests that are performed to each patient, regardless of what complaints he has made).

Let's talk about the simplest of the laboratory methods - a general analysis of urine. Each of the points of this analysis carries a lot of information, which can become a sign, both an affirming pathology, and refuting it. Among them the most interesting is the indicator "the number of leukocytes".

Leukocytes in large numbers indicate the active course or development of the inflammatory process. The norm of leukocytes in the urine ranges from 0 to 3 in men and from 0 to 6 in women. Where do they come from? In a normal state, such an amount of white blood cells can penetrate the mucous membranes of the urinary tract. WBCs found in large quantities may indicate the development of inflammation of the kidneys or urinary tract. Leukocyturia is far from the norm of leukocytes in the urine, it indicates cystitis, pyelonephritis, vesiculitis, glomerulonephritis, prostatitis or other inflammatory diseases. However, this is typical not only of the diseases of the urinary system, but also of the venereological pathologies (gonorrhea, ureaplasma, chlamydia).

In this case, the first signs of the disease are the white blood cells.

The norm in children is somewhat lower: up to two in boys and up to three in girls. Therefore, even a slight excess of the "white cells" in the analysis may indicate a serious pathology.

The norm of leukocytes in the urine is the starting point for comparing it with the amount detected in the analyzes. So, depending on the number of leukocytes visualized in the field of vision , an insignificant (or weak), moderate and pronounced leukocyturia is isolated. For the first, from eight to forty cells, for the second - from 50 to 100, for the third - more than 100 cells of white blood cells in the field of view of the microscope. In the case when pus in the urine is noticeable without concentration and additional devices, they speak of pyuria.

When the norm of leukocytes in the urine is exceeded in the tests, the doctor can refer you to a further examination. It will be conducted to determine the level of inflammation ( kidneys, ureters, bladder, urinary tract). For this, there is a special technique of two and three-glassed samples.

As for such a special physiological state as pregnancy, the level of leukocytes increases somewhat. Such an increase is considered normal, it indicates an increase in the protective mechanisms of the body as a result of the antigenic load of the fetal tissues. However, when white blood cells reach high values (more than ten to twelve units in the field of vision) during pregnancy, it is worth talking about a disease. It is for the purpose of control over the course of pregnancy that the tests are carried out regularly. The slightest deviations from the norm will attract the attention of the doctor and will make it necessary to diagnose the condition, adequately adjust and restore the health of the patient and her future child.
