The most optimal temperature for swimming in the sea

The positive effect of sea water on our body has been noted for a long time. Those who were lucky enough to read "Iphigenia in Tauris", probably remember the words of the main character: "Only the sea is washing away people's sins." Stay with the sea as a separate method of treatment has been recommended since the XIX century. Somewhat earlier, a student of SP Botkin, NP Dmitriev, wrote a paper on the "Climatic Conditions of the Southern Crimea." By the way, this work was marked by the Russian Geographical Society with a silver medal (1880).

To what temperature limits can water be heated and cooled along the coast of the peninsula? What is the optimal water temperature for swimming in the sea?

Indicators depend on the location and depth of the sea. Slightly to the south, in shallow water, water can warm up to 25 ° C by the end of June (Feodosia, Evpatoria, Kerch), by August the indicators reach 27 ° C (and sometimes up to 30 ° C). The sea becomes particularly cold in February, cooling off to the southern coast to 5 ° C, and in the northwest to 1 ° C. The Kerch Strait and the Sea of Azov can freeze.

The temperature of the water, suitable for swimming, opens the "sea season". This term is used by doctors who recommend water procedures for the treatment and prevention of a number of diseases.

The optimal temperature of water for swimming in the sea is also determined by physicians. However, water procedures at values below 20 ° C are not recommended. It is believed that the best temperature for bathing water is 24 ... 25 ° C and above. If, of course, you do not belong to the category of "walruses". Let's consider more in detail

1. At a temperature of 0 ... 9 ° C, Epiphany rituals are conducted. Such "execution" does not cause hypothermia and negative consequences if the dive is short-lived (several seconds).

2. Bathing at 10 ... 14 ° C is possible only under condition of good hardening and no more than 4-5 minutes.

3. The temperature of 15 ... 17 ° C is quite cold for swimming, but some are already capable of short dives. A two-hour stay in such water threatens the onset of a "marginal zone", when the possibility of losing consciousness from hypothermia is doubled.

4. At 17 ... 20 ° С favorable impressions, of course, are not guaranteed, but the feeling of cheerfulness necessarily comes. The "marginal zone" is still possible after a four-hour continuous bathing.

5. The values of 17 ... 22 ° C are considered to be acceptable for bathing. But some people prefer water more warmly.

6. 22 ... 24 ° C - the optimum temperature of water for swimming in the sea, suitable for all.

7. From 25 ° C and above. Such a temperature of the sea pleases not often. Subcooling during bathing is not threatened, so the adoption of water procedures can be quite long.

Officially believe that the duration of the swimming season in the Crimea lasts about 120-125 days. But the optimal temperature of water for swimming in the sea is fixed only for two months, although the swimming seasons are not always the same.

What is so useful sea water? First, bathing is always a joy, which means a surge of positive emotions. Secondly, when immersed, the organism receives a peculiar shake from the impact of a number of unusual factors:

  • Differences in body, water and air temperature;
  • Water pressure ;
  • Wave oscillations (movements);
  • Sun rays.

The organism is forced to react to changes, adapt to them. The water takes away heat, and the muscles and thermoregulation mechanism work to compensate for the loss. Thus, the hardening takes place. So bathe in health!
