The most expensive coins in the world: top-5

In this article we will tell you about the most expensive coins in the world, for which many collectors can give incredibly large sums of money. It's understandable, because getting one of these coins in your own collection is the dream of every coin collector. So, let's list the most expensive coins of the world, starting with the first place.

1. The Dollar of 1794

In 2010, at an auction, this silver dollar was sold for $ 7.8 million, which was a record in the price segment of rare coins. On one side of the dollar there is a bust of a girl, symbolizing freedom. On each side of it are 15 stars. It is not very difficult to guess that so many states were in the US in the late 18th century. On the other hand, the national symbol of the United States of America, the bald eagle, is minted.

2. The Double Eagle

On the obverse of this twenty-dollar coin of 1933 there is an image of an eagle, and on the reverse there is a statue of freedom. The second representative of the rating "The Most Expensive Coins of the World" has a very interesting history. In 1933, about half a million of these coins were minted, but in connection with the crisis they decided to re-melt everything. All but 20, which were stolen by an enterprising thief, and then acquired by a jeweler named Israel Sweet. The latter, in turn, sold them to private collectors. The US special services confiscated coins, except for the one that was in the hands of the King of Egypt. In 1991, it was possible to do, since the thing fell into the hands of the Englishman Stephen Fenton. The briton sued. After long litigations, it was decided to sell the coin through an auction and divide the amount received between the US Treasury and the British. In 2002, the "Double Eagle" left the auction for $ 7.6 million.

3. The Brasher duet

In 1787, the first gold coin of fifteen dollar denomination was made in the USA by the jeweler Ephraim Brasher. On the obverse, the image of the mountain with the sun rising behind it is minted. On the reverse there is an eagle with its head turned to the right. In 2011, an anonymous collector paid $ 7.4 million for her, which allows her to take her third place in the ranking "The most expensive coins of the world."

4. Five cents in 1913

We move on to the next position. The fourth place in the rating "The most expensive coins of the world" is received 5 cents in 1913. The fact is that until this time almost 600 million five-cent coins were minted. After that their issue was closed. But in 1913 the employee of the mint illegally minted another 5 pieces. In 2006, one of them was sold for $ 4.1 million to a company that bought antiques. Coins of the coinage of 1883-1912 are sold at a price of 30 to 75 dollars.

5. The Silver Dollar

In 1834, the US government issued an order to produce two gift sets of coins of all denominations, which were then in circulation. But by mistake, the mint staff on one of the 15 issued one-dollar coins was not 1834, but 1804. This thing was resold many times, until in 2008 it was purchased by a private collector for $ 3.7 million.

And in the end I want to mention the most expensive coin of Russia - the Konstantinovsky ruble. One of the collectors recently purchased it for $ 100,000. By the way, if you consider all the jubilee coins of Russia, then among them too come across very expensive specimens.
