Mold on bread (photo). How to grow it at home?

Very often in biological faculties in universities (and even in regular schools) they are asked a very unusual homework - to grow mold on bread. And this is not done for fun. And for effective study of students and for the sake of biological experiment. That is why very often one can meet the question of how to grow mold on bread.

What is it?

Before you start to solve the task, you need to clearly understand what you have to work on. And for this it is necessary to understand what mold is. First of all, it is a microscopic fungus. Many people think that mold is a bacterium. But the conducted studies have proved that it is still a fungus, the fruiting body of which is able to develop practically in any nutrient medium. For the cultivation of mold, not only bread, but also other products can be used. The main thing is to create optimal conditions for this. So, how to make mold on bread in the shortest possible time?

Kinds of mold

At the moment, there are several types of microscopic fungi. These include black, yellow and gray mold. Some of the species are considered useful, for example red, white and blue. With the help of this mold, quite tasty cheeses are made. In this case, such a product has many useful properties. First of all, such cheese contains protein, calcium and B vitamins. The use of such products positively affects the condition of the circulatory system, and also improves the work of the gastrointestinal tract. However, it is not allowed to eat cheese with molds and pregnant women.

Why does mold occur?

In everyday life, a person is constantly confronted with all kinds of molds on completely different products, as well as on things. Such a raid forms a special kind of fungus, the useful qualities of which a person has learned to use for good purposes. Some components are used in the manufacture of a certain group of medicines and products. It is worth noting that mold can develop in conditions that are optimal for a person. For a microscopic fungus, a nutrient medium is important. And then it's behind the small thing.

Why bread?

Mold on bread is a fairly common phenomenon. Even at the most scrupulous mistress after a while the product is affected by a similar fungus. And this is not an indicator of untidiness. In fact, for the development of microscopic fungus, a nutrient medium is needed that is rich in carbohydrates, as well as heat. Bread is the ideal product for mold growth. After all, it is rich in carbohydrates and stored in the warmth.

If there is no bread in the house, you can use fruits and potatoes to grow mold.

What should be bread?

Since it is necessary to grow mold quickly on bread, it is necessary to prepare everything necessary in advance. To create the optimal environment for the growth of microscopic fungus, it is not necessary to buy fresh baked goods. To do this, even an old piece of bread is perfect. At the same time, many experts say that it is better to use white baking to grow mildew: a loaf or a bun.

To speed up the process, it is necessary to place the product in a room with moist and warm air. And to slow the growth of microscopic fungus, it is worthwhile to transfer a piece of bread in a dry and cold environment. The process itself consists of only a few stages.

Stage One

Mold on bread, a photo of which can be seen below, appears after 24 hours if a piece of white bread is dampened a little in water, and then placed in a plastic bag. Do not tighten it. In this case, the package must be transparent. A similar structure of the material will make it possible to see if a mold has appeared on the bread and what color it is.

First of all, the spores hit the crust of the flour product, and later the crumb itself. If there is even a small crack on the bread, then it is from this point that the product will begin to mold, gradually shifting to the inner area. In this part, the humidity is higher, the microscopic fungus spreads much faster.

Mold spores contribute to the rapid decomposition of the crumb. As a result, the bread loses its pleasant aroma and taste. A denser crust on the product does not allow the fungus to penetrate inside. Probably, many noticed that the bread sold in bags, for a long time does not mold. The thing is that this product contains preservatives that do not allow the fungus to develop. Therefore, for an experiment, you should not take such a product.

Stage Two

Since it is very difficult to make mold on bread under intensive lighting, the package with the product should be placed in a dark place. The first spores of microscopic fungus will appear in a day. However, it will be difficult to see them with the naked eye. Usually these are barely noticeable strings that are hidden between the pores of bread.

A few days later the mold on the bread will become more noticeable. Initially, the microscopic fungus will show up almost unnoticeable light spots. Gradually they will darken and increase in size until the bread surface is hidden beneath a layer of mold.

On this growth of the fungus does not end. After a few more days, a green bloom will appear, which will gradually change its hue. The result is a black mold on the bread. This phenomenon indicates that the microscopic fungus under the created conditions feels fine and decided to enlarge the colony with the help of its own arguments.

Is it possible to eat products with mold?

Even the white mold on the bread is poison. Any product with microscopic fungi should be discarded immediately. The most dangerous is yellow mold. It would seem an inoffensive fungus. But in fact, mold can cause the growth of cancerous tumors.

Of course, cheese with mold is an exception. In addition, microscopic fungus in this case is prepared specifically, and it is noble. However, eating ordinary cheese, covered with mold, is dangerous.

What if I ate the product with mold?

So, what if you accidentally ate bread with mold? Many people are indifferent to this. But do not look at it like that through your fingers. Of course, from such an addition in the diet, a person will not die. But still it is considered poisoning. In the first place, the liver suffers from this.

Usually, after consuming products with mold, doctors recommend drinking a regular activated charcoal. The dosage of the drug depends on the weight. For every ten kilograms you need to drink one tablet.

If a large amount of spoiled food is eaten, you should drink a weak solution of potassium permanganate. This will clear the stomach. For safety, it is not superfluous to drink the course of the drug, which helps restore liver cells.

Finally

Mold on the bread, photo under the microscope of which amaze with its beauty, is a sign that the product is clean in the ecological plan and was fit for consumption. It is worth noting that such microscopic fungi do not reproduce in a polluted environment. When carrying out the experiment it should be taken into account that ordinary fresh bread is covered with mold much more quickly than floury sweet products. This is due to the fact that such products contain preservatives. Such components slow the development of the fungus.

Do not forget that mold damages our body. Scientists have found in products coated with this fungus, more than 100 toxic compounds. The use of such food can lead to serious problems. Toxins that enter the body may not appear for a long time. However, after several decades, they will be the main cause of the intensive growth of cancerous tumors. It is worth noting that even heat treatment does not save products from harmful compounds. Therefore, products covered with mold must be discarded.
