The metal profile is a worthy alternative to the wooden structure

Today, perhaps, not to find any area of construction (whether the erection of residential buildings or industrial buildings of various purposes), wherever a metal profile was applied. It is used for erecting partitions, suspended ceilings, leveling and facing walls (both indoors and outdoors).

Having the most diverse forms of cross-section, the metal profile is inherently a thin metal band, which has rather high strength. Resistant to changes in temperature and humidity, durable, not exposed to mold and fungi, today it almost replaced the once-formerly popular wooden building beam.

A metal profile is produced by cold rolling. To increase the mechanical strength of the profile, stiffeners are formed. As a rule, finished metal billets are galvanized, which increases their resistance to corrosion. Aluminum is also used for the production of profiles, which, despite its lightness, also has a rather high strength.

For the construction of easily assembled structures for commercial and industrial purposes, as well as in the construction of residential buildings and sports facilities, a square metal profile is used, which is made from calibrated square steel (with a profile width of 6 to 200 mm, regulated by GOST 2591-88). It is used in case of construction necessity, since it does not have such rigidity as the channel (or I-profile metal profile), the square can not be used as a self-supporting element.

The metal profiles used for the construction of skeletons or under the skin are conventionally divided into four main types:

  • Rack. It has a U-shaped shape in its section and consists of a backrest and also bent at right angles two shelves. Through the entire length of the shelves, there are usually three grooves, and in the back there are openings that are used to fix the heater or lay cable lines.
  • The guide. It also has a U-shaped shape, but does not have longitudinal grooves. It is usually used as a kind of "rail", into which a rack profile is inserted .
  • Ceiling. It is different in size from the rack. Usually they are standard - 60х27 mm with a length of 3 m. As the name suggests, they are usually used in the manufacture of frames and ceilings (including combined and multi-level).
  • Guide ceiling profile. Performing the same functions as a conventional guide profile, its dimensions are 28х27 mm (length 3 m).

Simply put, each rack or ceiling metal profile has its guide, and the choice of the required type depends only on the features of the constructed structure and the expected thickness of the future wall or partition.

In addition to the above, there are also angular and arched profiles. The former are usually used to level the corners and protect them from various damages, while the latter are used to impart a wide variety of shapes to ceilings or arched doorways. For fastening metal hangers to the supporting base, straight pendants are used, which also aligns the future surface horizontally or vertically.
