The largest waterfall in the Leningrad Region

How often do we admire the transparent water streams that flow into the picturesque lakes. And sometimes you want to enjoy the beauty of nature, not just in the picture, but live. Not everyone knows that for this it is not necessary to go to distant countries and spend big money. You can find a real waterfall in the Leningrad region, and not even one. And in this publication we will tell you about the unique natural monuments of the region.

The largest waterfall in Europe

It is worthy of surprise, but the largest in Europe is the waterfall in the Leningrad region called Tosnensky. This unique natural monument is located in the area of a small village of Sablino.

The river called Tosna has rapids, one of which is equal to the height of a person. But they say that before its height reached four meters. And the width of the famous natural monument is twenty meters.

It is worth noting that the Tosnensky Falls among the local population is known as the "mini Niagara". However, in truth, Niagara is generally considered not to be the biggest waterfall on the planet, but it is the most powerful water stream from all North American. If we talk about the Russian natural monument in Sablino, then tourists, as a rule, get to it, without even ordering an excursion.

The waterfall is famous for warm water, which is why it is good to take a whirlpool bath. However, be careful: in periods of high water, water can be dangerous, especially if you are new to this business. This threshold is also sometimes called Gertowski. In this place you can safely walk, think about your personal and watch how the streams of water fall.

You can get to Sablino by bus. The most convenient routes for travel are the 325th and 323-K.

An interesting fact is that the channel of the threshold makes it possible to observe the traces of what his former position was. Such sites are called "water chalice". The depth of the bowl is estimated at four to five meters, with the inside of them being filled (there are boulders).

Sablinsky Falls

In the village of Sablino, you can admire the unusual in its beauty locations, which the Leningrad region is proud of. There are many natural monuments - caves and rapids. Also known is the Sablinsky Falls. It can be found near the village of Ulyanovka, in the Sablinka River. The height of the waterfall is estimated at four meters. However, this indicator varies from time to time, as does the water run-through rate. This is due to erosion, an unstable watercourse, etc.

Travel to this waterfall is necessary so that you can visit the Sablin natural monument at the same time. In order to reach this place, you need to take the train to the Sorting station (Obukhovo) or use the motor transport.

Waterfall on the river Karaste

Another waterfall in the Leningrad region is located on the river Karaste. There is a threshold in a place called Upper Park in Oranienbaum (this is a palace ensemble, located 40 kilometers west of St. Petersburg). Because the source of the river is located in a wooded swampy area, and its food is provided by springs, there are peat particles in the water. This circumstance caused the unusual red color of Carasta. Artificial ponds on the river create a powerful flow, ensuring the presence of pressure.

Gorchakov's waterfall

Not far from the village, which is called Issad, in the forest area is a very beautiful waterfall in the Leningrad region - Gorchakovschinsky. He nestled among a large number of green trees, which provides an influx of travelers who like to be photographed here.

Gorchakov's waterfall is the highest in the region, and its height is estimated at four meters. This figure, unlike other monuments, is permanent. The height of the river canyon reaches ten meters.

If you find yourself in this area, try to look for the Lubshan Fortress (to be precise, its remains). It was built in the 6th century by the Finno-Ugric population, and is also the oldest one known to researchers of ancient Russian history. If you can not get right there because of the excavation, then you can look at it from afar.

How to get to the Gorchakovschina rapids?

A great place to relax is the Gorchakovsch waterfall. How to get there? Get the best car. By car, you need to move from the Ring Road along the "Kola" road until you reach the village of Issada. Next, you need to get behind the bridge, drive through Volkhov and turn right. Then you will go to the Old Ladoga (about 6 km). After you stop, you need to go for about 400 meters, until you reach a river called Volkhov.
