The geopolitical position of Russia

The geopolitical position of Russia in the modern world is quite complex and unstable. Experts in the field of international relations tend to regard this as a direct consequence of the specific situation of our state, in which it appeared after the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics at the end of the last century. The main difficulty was that, legally, as a successor to the disappeared state, the Russian Federation nevertheless lost most of the economic, geographical and political benefits associated with joining the Union.

Russia after the collapse of the USSR, bordering with a huge number of Eastern European states, was cut off from them by a fairly large number of newly independent states. Possessing huge territories, these new neighbors of the Russian Federation forced the government of the country to take a number of measures to change military policy and economic relations with regard to European states.

The conclusion of friendly alliances between some of the states formed on the basis of the former union republics with countries that were not previously part of the sphere of interests of the USSR also significantly changed the geopolitical position of Russia.

But the most negative, according to diplomats and specialists in the field of international economy, were the consequences caused by the change in the borders of the former Union. So, if before the collapse of the USSR had a huge number of large ports on the Black and Baltic Seas, then its official successor, the Russian Federation, is forced to date to be satisfied only with St. Petersburg on the Baltic coast and Tuapse and Novorossiysk on the Black Sea coast. The geopolitical position of Russia became even more difficult with regard to the possibilities of establishing trade through railway junctions - in exchange for the 25 major transitions in the USSR today we have only one located in the enclave of the Kaliningrad region.

Another specificity of Russia's current position in the international community is the lack of an official state status in a sufficiently large number of borders between the former union republics. This often causes a huge number of disputes between the governments of these or those independent states formed on the basis of these republics, which also leads to constant instability in the military sphere. Periodically flaring up on unconfirmed borders, the conflicts make Russia's geopolitical position more than complicated.

All this makes the embodiment of the objective geopolitical interests of the Russian Federation quite difficult, giving it some instability in the world community . Therefore, for our country at the moment, it is very important to establish the most friendly relations with its potential allies. Modern geopolitics is such that even the largest world powers traditionally considered the main poles of world politics (Russia, the United States, China, etc.) can not count on a stable position in the world community without the constant support of the outgoing allies. This also complicates Russia's position, since more countries formed after the collapse of the USSR became the subject of a major political game designed to win the largest possible number of geopolitical and economic allies among the leading powers. The formation of new military and economic unions directly at the borders of Russia creates unnecessary tension and is the cause of a considerable number of international conflicts.
