A treble cleaver is a symbol of art and a dubious tattoo

A treble clef in the familiar form for us appeared in the sixteenth century, when instrumental music was born. But the prehistory of it began at the turn of the first and second millennium AD. Then the Benedictine monk Guido from the city of Arezzo in the Italian province of Tuscany came up with how to record music with notes. To designate a sound, one had to invent a symbol.

The notes in their present guise are due exclusively to Guido d'Arezzo. After that, the music recording system was improved, but this monk laid the foundation. At the beginning of the line he wrote down a Latin note with a note, from which the melody began. The letter G, which stands for "salt", served as a prototype of the treble clef.

What is its function? On the five rulers of the musical staff, you can place eleven musical signs. A treble clef indicates which ruler (second from the bottom) is the "salt" of the first octave. The range of notes located on these five rulers when recording with a treble clef is quite sufficient for most musical instruments. However, not for all this is appropriate. There are instruments of very low and, on the contrary, very high sound. If you record a melody for them, you will have to apply additional rulers. They can be from below or from above. When reading melody from a sheet it is very inconvenient. In order to record music for different instruments, the treble clef was not well adapted. Therefore, several other signs of this kind were invented. It's bass, alto, tenor and some other keys.

What is the difference between them? The bass key indicates where the note "fa" is located of the small (next down from the first) octave. It is on the second top of the ruler. The baritone is slightly higher than the bass, so the same note is placed on the middle ruler by the baritone key. The alto symbol places the note "before" the first octave on the same line. Why is this happening? The fact is that the viola is higher than the baritone or tenor.

In total, eleven keys are currently used in practice. In the past, there were significantly more of them, but in the process of developing this art, most of them disappeared unnecessarily. To record the highest (in the musical sense) sound, a soprano or treble key is used. He has a note "to" the first octave on the first ruler from the bottom.

A treble clef is not suitable for recording parts of percussion instruments. For this, a special "neutral" symbol is used. After all, for percussion instruments, the notion of pitch does not mean anything. The main thing here is rhythm and loudness. It is recorded in two versions.

In the first case, these are two thick parallel vertical lines, resting on the ends of the second and fourth rows of the musical staff, and in the second - an elongated rectangle that does not extend to the extreme lines.

The popularity of the violin key as a musical symbol caused even a fashion for tattooing. Among musicians, he is considered the personification of creativity and indicates the ownership of the owner of a fashionable tattoo to people of art. But on the "zone" of tattoo, the "treble clef" can have a completely different meaning. It will bring a person who has imprudently made himself a tattoo in the form of this musical symbol, a lot of trouble. As a rule, he is pierced by homosexuals.

However, the opinion of the criminal community regarding this tattoo was not finally settled. Therefore, depending on the place of application and graphic nuances, the treble clef can also mean that its owner has had a fun, wild life in the wild. However, the price of error in this case is too great, therefore more and more inmates of places of detention prefer not to contact a dubious tattoo.
