The film "Perfume": actors and roles. History of the painting

The famous novel by Patrick Zuskind saw the light in 1985 and instantly became a bestseller. In total, the prose writer created 9 works, of which the most famous was the novel "Perfume." The actors who played in the film adaptation of this work were approved by critics and spectators in the form of awards and laudatory reviews.

"Perfumer. The Story of a Murderer "- one of the best novels in German

Action in the novel occurs in the XVIII century. To immerse the reader in that era, Suzykind uses the method of pseudo-realism. He saturates the book with dates and describes in detail the places with which the events of the drama are connected. So the author wants to create in the reader a sense of the reality of what is happening. On every, even the most insignificant, character, Zyuskind gives detailed information and tells the date and cause of death - another way to create the illusion of the reality of the events described. And the author succeeds brilliantly - he perfectly recreates the atmosphere of that era in the book.

The film "Perfume" - a story and story of creation

Since the publication of the novel, many well-known filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick wanted to film it. All of them tried to get permission to shoot with the author of the book. But the drama "Perfume", the actors of which are the focus of this article, Suskind entrusted only his friend Bernd Eichinger, who was the producer of the films "Knockin 'on Heaven" and "The Name of the Rose". The last picture was taken from the same novel by Umberto Eco, and it was believed that the book could not be screened. The same thing was said about the "Perfume". To translate the story told in the novel, the German director Tom Tykwer was invited. He is known for such films as "Run, Lola, Run", "Cloud Atlas", "Paris, I Love You". Tykwer with great enthusiasm began to work on such a complex product as "Perfume." The actors who played the main roles before the release of the film were little known to the general public, with the exception of Dustin Hoffman and Alan Rickman.

The creators of the film tried to transfer the plot of the book to a wide screen without changes. In Paris, in the 18th century, a fishmonger has a baby. This happens right behind the counter, but the woman manages to give birth unnoticed to others. The newborn was doomed to die in a pile of garbage if he had not cried. Hearing the crying of the child, market visitors saved him, and the boy's mother was executed for attempting infanticide. Grenouille (a baby got such a name) was in such a shock at the time of birth because of the intolerable stench of the market, which received an incredibly subtle sense of smell. He himself was devoid of smell from birth.

Living in terrible conditions (children's home, then work at the tanner), Grenouil dreams of knowing about the smells all. Once on the street he caught a magically beautiful smell. Following him, he met a young plum salesman. Wanting to get her scent, he strangles the girl, but after her death, the wonderful smell disappears.

Grenouille decides to find a way to preserve fragrances. His dream is to create on the basis of the smells of the most beautiful girls spirits, which will be his own wonderful fragrance.

Drama "Perfume" - actors and roles

The main role of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a man with an incredibly sharp sense of smell, was played by young British actor Benjamin John Wishaw. This is one of his first known roles in the cinema. Prior to Perfumer, the actor was better known for working in the theater. The film made it not just famous - Wishaw began to star in projects such as "Cloud Atlas", "007: Coordinates" Skyfall "and" The Adventures of Paddington. "

The last victim of Grenouille, a young aristocrat Laura Rishi, was played by British actress Rachel Claire Hurd-Wood. After "Perfume" she had several interesting works in the movie: in the thriller "Dorian Gray" and the fantasy "Solomon Kane."

Dustin Hoffman appeared in the film in the image of an aging Parisian perfumer Giuseppe Baldini, who once created wonderful spirits, but no longer able to repeat his success. But he is an expert in the finer points of perfumery, and Grenouille learns a lot from him about how to collect and preserve fragrances.

Alan Rickman played Laura's father, Consul of Rishi. It was through his efforts that Grenouille was caught.

Movie score

"Perfume", whose actors were very popular after the release of the picture, was well received by critics, although its artistic value continues to cause controversy. Undoubtedly, this is a fascinating thriller that keeps the viewer in suspense until the very end.
