The drug "Mebendazole". Instructions for use

The drug "Mebendazol" (Vermox, Vormin) is considered a highly effective anthelmintic agent. The medication is available in tableted and suspended form. Its active substance is mebendazole.

The drug has a wide range of anthelmintic activity. The drug with trichocephalosis and enterobiosis is most effective. The drug blocks the synthesis of cellular tubulin in worms, disrupts the functioning of cytoplasmic microtubules, prevents the utilization of glucose and slows the formation of ATP.

After taking the medication is absorbed to a small extent. The drug has a fairly low bioavailability, which is associated with high primary metabolism and low enough solubility. Medication "Mebendazol" (the instruction contains such information) is excreted with feces almost completely.

The drug is prescribed to eliminate cestodes, nematodes. Indications for its use include ankylostomidosis, ascariasis, enterobiasis, trichinosis, trichocephalus. The drug "Mebendazole" instructions for use recommends the use of echinococcosis, teniosis, strongyloidiasis. Medication is also prescribed for mixed invasions.

The drug "Mebendazole" instruction for use does not allow for use in cases of severe disorders of liver activity, hypersensitivity to it. It is not recommended for children under the age of two.

When applying the drug against a background of massive helminthic invasion and a sufficiently rapid removal of parasites, there may be (in some cases) abdominal pain (transitory), headache, diarrhea. Possible side effects are both eosinophilia and anemia. In a number of cases, allergic manifestations (rash, angioneurotic edema, skin itching or urticaria) occurred in patients with the drug. Rarely, hair loss was observed, as well as cylindruria, hematuria.

In patients older than 10 years with enterobiosis, the medication "Mebendazole" is recommended for use in the amount of one hundred milligrams. Children under the age of ten are prescribed twenty-five or fifty milligrams each. The drug in this case is taken once. At an increased risk of secondary invasion, use of the medication is carried out again - after two or four weeks, in the same dosage.

When ankylostomiasis, ascariasis, trichocephalosis, children and adults, the drug is prescribed twice a day for one hundred milligrams (in the evening and in the morning). The treatment is carried out for three days.

With mixed invasions, strongyloidiasis, teniosis, the recommended adult dose is two hundred milligrams twice a day. Children are recommended twice a day for one hundred milligrams. The treatment is continued for three days.

In trichinosis, the drug "Mebendazole" recommends the use of the instruction according to the following scheme: in the first three days - three times a day for 200 or 400 milligrams, from the fourth to the tenth day - three times a day for 400-500 milligrams.

With echinococcosis appoint twice a day for 500 milligrams of the drug (in the first three days). Over the next three days, the frequency of application is increased up to 3 times (the dosage is left the same). Subsequently, a daily dose of 25 or 30 milligrams per kilogram of weight is recommended, in three or four doses.

When an overdose of the remedy, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea are noted. There are also cramps in the abdomen. In these cases, gastric lavage is performed using a solution of potassium permanganate of a pale pink color. The use of activated carbon is allowed.

The expediency of using Mebendazole during pregnancy and lactation is determined by a specialist. During the entire therapeutic course, hygiene must be carefully observed. It is recommended to be treated for all family members.
