How to make a hive with your own hands?

At present, when beekeeping acts as one of the promising branches of agriculture, the question of how to make a beehive with our own hands becomes more urgent. When choosing its type, it is necessary to take into account the main factors that can affect the result. In the process of construction, a variety of materials are used: wood, cane and even expanded polystyrene. Widespread use of multi-body construction, created by a beekeeper in the century before last. Such a beehive is very realistic to make by itself, if you become acquainted with its device. As a rule, the structure includes a certain number of nest cases, a bottom, a roof, a ceiling, extensions under honey, dividing lattices, supports and a carousel.

Making a hive with your own hands of this type, you need to know that its body is usually made in the form of a box measuring 450x375 mm. As for the height, it is 240 mm. However, the sizes may vary depending on the accepted standards in a given region. Gradually, a layer of propolis appears on the frame, in connection with this, it is not so easy to fit the entire set of components. In addition, wooden frames tend to swell. Thus, in some cases a few centimeters to the width are added.

Performing a hive with their own hands, the walls of the body are united by the method of a straight spike. Additional fixation is carried out with the help of nails. To avoid serious chipping, holes are drilled under them. On the outside of the walls, shells are made for the hands of the beekeeper. They play an important role in the work with the buildings. Directly below them a special drill is drilled, the diameter of which is 25 mm. Its main task is to ventilate. With each other, the hulls are joined end to end.

Of course, a hive can be made by own hands, resorting to other methods, but the example given is the most optimal one. Immediately after the construction of the foundation, the construction of the remaining parts begins. Honey extension is performed in approximately the same way. Its size is 435x145 mm. The roof guard is made of 20 millimeters planks, on which the tin is laid on top. Then alternately arranged: floor, ceiling, dividing grid, liner, bounding tray.

Just recently, a hive of expanded polystyrene was widely spread. However, it is hardly worthwhile to attribute it to a particular type. Using this option, you can apply any methods and methods of beekeeping. Similar designs have even their advantages over wooden analogues. First, they do not contain places where a wax moth or other pests can start. The tree (although it refers to environmentally friendly materials) is a real haven for microorganisms. Secondly, polystyrene foam itself has constant thermophysical characteristics, which allows maintaining the optimum temperature at any time of the year.
