The drug "Corvalol": from what and how to apply?

There are many drugs that can be purchased at pharmacies without a special prescription. This, as a rule, non-steroid means (aspirin, tsitramon), vitamins and various drops. For example, medicinal product "Corvalol". From what this tool, we will consider in this article.

Description of the preparation

"Transparent liquid without color and impurities, which has a specific flavor" - this definition has a drug "Corvalol" (from which this drug is used, discussed below). The composition of the drug is a combination of the main active components:

  • Ether of ethyl from valerian. Thanks to this ingredient, the drug has an antispasmodic and soothing effect. More precisely, it uses the essential oil of α-bromovaleric acid and its derivatives.
  • Extract of oil from peppermint. This component contains menthol, which is known as a remedy for spasms in the blood vessels of the heart.
  • Phenobarbital is also part of the "Corvalol" medication. From what this component helps, one can judge from such information. This substance is included in the barbiturate group - substances that exert a depressing effect on the entire system of nerve endings. The composition of the drug uses phenobarbital-sodium, this tool has anticonvulsant and soothing properties.
  • Auxiliary substances (purified water, sodium caustic and ethyl alcohol).

Application and dosage

Medication "Corvalol" (whose composition is considered above) is prescribed for such diseases:

  • Neuroses and increased irritability;
  • Violations in the activity of the vegetative system;
  • Spasms in the intestine;
  • insomnia;
  • tachycardia;
  • Functional disorders in the circulatory system and heart.

The dosage of this medication is prescribed individually for each case, depending on the degree and type of the disease. As a rule, for adults, the number of drops from 15 to 30 can be used, for children from 3 to 15. This amount of medicine is recommended to be consumed 3 times daily before meals. If necessary, a single dose can be brought to 50 drops, for example, with a strong tachycardia.

In pharmacies, you can also find a medication "Corvalol" in tablets. The use of this drug is similar to the drug in droplets, since it contains the same components. Dosage is for adults as much as 6 tablets per day. Recommended for this mode of use: 2 times 2 pieces.

Additional Information

There are cases when the use of this drug is prohibited. It can be in such situations:

  • With a strong sensitivity of the patient's body to those or other components of the drug;
  • With functional disorders of organs such as the liver or kidneys;
  • During pregnancy and during lactation;
  • With a lack of lactase in the body, etc.

There is a danger of getting used to such a drug as "Corvalol". What is this from, or rather, because of what? The effect of "addiction" can be explained by the fact that phenobarbital, which is part of this drug, has a narcotic effect.
