The best vibrotail on pike. How to catch a pike on a vibrotail?

Among the variety of spinning lures that fill the shelves of our fishing stores, silicone attachments occupy a separate place. Appeared about 20 years ago, they have gained immense popularity among fans of predatory fishing. Low price, easy installation and high catchability built silicones in the leaders of baits for pike.

Types of silicone baits

Today on sale are two main types of silicone baits: twisters and vibro-tails (rippers). Both these nozzles usually do not have their own loading and are designed to be mounted on a jig-head.

The first type is a bait with a ribbed body in the form of a worm and a large wide spiral tail. When moving, the tail part of the twister under the influence of the water flow is then straightened, then twisted, vibrating and oscillating. This behavior of the bait perfectly attracts the predator.

Vibrotail is a soft dynamic silicone nozzle in the form of a fish. Like the twister, it has a tail element. The very word "ripper" in translation means "hoe", which resembles the tail part of the bait. However, in the vibrotail, the tail "shovel" is short and located almost at right angles to the body of the nozzle. When posting, it, resisting the water flow, swings from side to side with a changing frequency, which is very similar to the natural movements of a fish.

Which bait is better

What is better: a vibrotail or a twister on a pike? Here everything depends on the mood of the predator and its activity. In the spring, twisters are predominantly used. And it is believed that the brighter its color and the more luxurious the tail, the better. But in the autumn, when the water is the most transparent, the pike more often prefers the vibrotail. Natural color, attractive shapes and a smooth bait game make it as appetizing as possible for fish.

In summer, the vibrotail on the pike is also very effective, not only for spinning. Such baits are successfully used even when catching a predator on a donkey or a joker. Correctly chosen size and color of the nozzle will make the pike adequately respond.

What are vibrotails?

Rippers are usually classified by size and geometric parameters into three groups:

  • Vibrotails with a wide body or "shad" (they have a wide solid body);
  • Narrow-core vortex ticks "Long" (they have a narrow elongated body and peculiar "incisions" at the beginning of the tail section);
  • Narrow-bodied vibro-tails without "cuts".

The first type of rippers is made from the softest silicone. It is from its elasticity that the amplitude of the game depends. They are often used to catch pike on complex overgrown areas. Usually, silicone "shades" are made in the form of fish habitual for a predator: roach, bleak or chub.

The narrow-necked vibrotail on the pike with "notches" plays not only due to the softness of the material from which it is made, but also thanks to the "cut" body. It turns out that the tail part is separated from the body, it keeps only on a thin layer of silicone. This solution gives the tail the maximum freedom to play when posting.

Vibrohvosty with a narrow body without cuts are made of a more rigid material and are intended for fishing on a predator in conditions of rapid current.

There is also a separate type of rippers, in the body of which a stationary cargo is placed. They are made of dense silicone or rubber, but look more like a wobbler than a vibrotail. Such lures are colorized in the image and likeness of common peaceful fishes.

How important is the color of the bait

Pike, as, indeed, other predatory fish, is able to distinguish colors. However, this does not mean that she sees the same way as a person. In fish, this process is somewhat different, so it's safe to say that the color of bait is essential, it's impossible.

In this issue, the opinions of the fishermen diverge: some argue that only bait plays a role, while others tend to think that its coloring plays the decisive role.

In fact, there is no reliable data on whether the fish attracts more color of the nozzle or its behavior in the water. But certainly you should not use baits of black, blue or green.

For fishing in spring and autumn use silicones of red and yellow colors. Vibro tail on a pike in the summer should be white, gray or yellow with a black back.

However, you can not go fishing with baits of a certain color. It is better if the angler has a whole set of colorful rippers of various shapes and sizes.

What size should a vibrotail on a pike

As for the size, the pike is not especially picky in food, except on hot summer days. At this time, she seldom chases prey, but is satisfied that she herself will sail. This behavior is inherent in it and for the pre-spawning period. For such periods, it is better to use rippers no longer than 50 mm as bait.

Vibro tail on the pike in autumn and spring after spawning should have a length of 70 mm. The optimum size of silicone for the time of maximum activity of this predator is 70-120 mm.

Jig heads used to equip a vibrotail

In order for the bait to have a good balance during wiring and as much as possible on a live fish, it is necessary to choose the right jig-head correctly. There are three main types of heads:

  • One-piece ball;
  • Erie's head;
  • Hinged.

The first type of jig heads is the most common and popular. Their design consists of a single hook with a long fore-end with a load in the form of a ball sealed on it. A silicone equipped with such a head is the best vibrotail on a pike in ponds with standing water or with a weak current.

The head of Erie differs in that the load is separated from the hook by a carbine and carried forward. This allows him to move independently of the silicone. Drops to the bottom very quickly and becomes vertical. It is used for fishing on a strong current.

The hinged jig-head is similar to a conventional ball-shaped head, however it has a movable load moving vertically relative to the forearm. Gives excellent results with stepped wiring when the bait moves from bottom to surface and back.

Mounting the vibrotail

In the fishing shops you can freely buy ready-made silicones already equipped with a jig-head. Some models are already assembled from the factory, while others are mounted by the sellers themselves. Having a certain experience of planting baits on the hook, you can make and independent installation. Vibrotail on the pike requires an accurate snap, otherwise the bait in the water will behave incorrectly.

The hook of the jig-head must correspond to the size of the silicone and not exceed 1/3 of its length. Plant it starting with the "mouth" of the nozzle, holding the forearm at an angle of approximately 30 0 to the longitudinal axis of the vibrotail. It is also necessary to control that the sting of the hook passes exactly in the middle of the bait and does not come out from the side, but in the center of the back. When the jig-head is equipped, the silicone is corrected and pulled closer to the load.

To make the installation the most accurate, you can first attach a hook to the vibrotail and mark the points of entry and exit of the sting, as well as the supposed line of location of its forehead.

How to catch a pike on a vibrotail

Spinning fishing involves the use of various postings, suitable for a certain type of bait. Catching on a vibrotail can be carried out by any of them, only to take into account the activity of the predator and the features of the reservoir. For novice pike hunters, you can advise three main types of wiring:

  • Uniform;
  • Jerky;
  • Vertical.

Uniform wiring is performed by smoothly winding the fishing line with the same intensity.

The jerky method provides for low-amplitude sharp movements with the rod upwards with the subsequent release. During this process, the bait soars up to the surface of the water, then falls to the bottom.

Vertical wiring can only be used when fishing in a plumb bob from a boat. It consists in making vertical straight movements of the rod to raise and lower the bait.
