The newest history of Italy began in the XX century. During this period, the state had to go through a number of events. In 1922 Benito Mussolini came to power , who established the fascist regime in the country. His reign lasted until 1945. The ruler dragged Italy into World War II.

The post-war period was very difficult for the republic. In 1946, the last king of Italy, Umberto, abdicated. Then follows the post-war crisis, a series of unsuccessful reforms, the decline of agriculture and industry. Despite the difficulties, the whole world watched the economic miracle over time. All this history of Italy was accompanied by scandals and lawsuits of the local mafia. In no country in the world was corruption so widespread.

The modern history of Italy already tells about a new, highly developed, civilized country. The state is considered one of the world's leading exporters. The goods that are produced on its territory are among the best in the world. Italy cooperates with the countries of the European Union, as well as with other economically developed countries. It maintains close economic relations with Great Britain, France and Germany.
