Cough remedy "Ambroxol": instructions for use

Ambroxol is an expectorant mucous drug from cough. It acts as a drug that stimulates serous gland cells located in the bronchial mucosa due to an increase in the mucosal secretion. So, this drug restores the balance between serous and mucous components of sputum, which was broken. These effects, as a consequence, lead to a facilitated spillage and excretion of sputum, as well as a reduction in cough.

Ambroxol may have several different trade names. One of them is Ambroxol Verte. Instructions for use lists the following forms of release of this drug: syrup, solution for inhalation, and also for oral administration, tablets, solution for intravenous administration, sustained-release capsules, effervescent tablets, resorption tablets.

Ambroxol is recommended for use in chronic and acute respiratory illnesses that accompany the formation and release of an increased amount of viscous sputum (bronchiectatic disease, chronic and acute bronchitis, bronchial asthma, accompanied by difficulty in separating sputum, pneumonia, COPD). In addition, Ambraxol stimulates prenatal lung maturation. More rarely, side effects are manifested in weakness, headache, diarrhea, dryness in the mucous membrane of the mouth and respiratory tract, constipation, exanthema, dysuria can be felt. With prolonged and continuous use of Ambroxol in high doses, vomiting, nausea and gastralgia may occur.
