Temples of Ekaterinburg: addresses, photos and history

Ekaterinburg is a city with a rich history. Sometimes her pages were stained with blood. In the village there are many temples, cathedrals. In some parts of the city, gold crosses and church domes are visible from everywhere. In the Urals capital, you can count more than a hundred buildings belonging to the Orthodox diocese, there are also Catholic cathedrals and mosques.

The most famous temple

Everyone knows the fact that it was in the Ural capital that the royal family was deported after the arrest. And here, in the basement of engineer Ipatiev's house, was executed the execution of Nicholas II, his wife and children. For many years, an investigation was conducted into all the circumstances of their death and the search for a burial place.

Enumerating the temples of Yekaterinburg, it is worth starting with one of the most famous ones - the Temple-on-the-Blood that is on Tolmachev Street, 34. It was erected on the site of the infamous Ipatiev House, in which the execution of the royal family was carried out in 1918. For a long time there was a vacant lot on which construction was not conducted. Even in the Soviet period, no one dared to build a sinister site.

The public has repeatedly asked the city authorities to build a church in this place as a sign of repentance and a reminder of the terrible events, when seven members of the royal family, including the young heirs of the throne, were shot.

The temple itself was erected on a hillock, which makes it seem that the staircase leads to the sky. The height of the building is 60 meters, and the total area is 3 thousand square meters. People's lines of people come here daily to touch history and pray. At the temple there is a museum that tells about the last days of the Romanov family. In the yard there is a monument depicting the family descending to the cellar to the place of execution.

Place of finding the remains

In the village of Shuvakish, bodies of members of the royal family were taken to Ganina's pit and dropped into the mine. It was here after many years that the remains were found and exhumed. For a long time people were afraid to approach this place, but in 1991 a cross was established. Later, a temple and a monastery were built. Now seven churches are built on the territory of the complex - by the number of killed members of the royal family.

Not only Orthodox pilgrims aspire to these temples of Yekaterinburg, but everyone who wants to see the last refuge of the monarch's family.

Patriarchal Compound

In the immediate vicinity of the Temple-on-the-Blood is the Patriarchal Compound. On its territory there is a small, but very cozy church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (Yekaterinburg). Outside, the church is built of stone, and inside is decorated with wood, which creates an atmosphere of warmth and coziness. It is located at the following address: Yasnaya street, 3/1.

In Yekaterinburg, there is another temple bearing the name of St. Nicholas, located on Kuibyshev Street, 39. His story began with a children's shelter, opened in 1857. A decade later, a large two-story building for orphans was built. On the second floor, originally intended to equip the home church.

But after the revolution the building changed owners and direction of activity. Only in 2003 the collective of the USMU, which at that time owned the building, began the restoration of the church with the funds of teachers and trustees. On November 23, 2006, domes were consecrated and installed. Since then it is considered the Temple of Miners of Russia. The structure differs little from the surrounding buildings, built in a single architectural style. Only domes and crosses remind of involvement in Orthodoxy.

The oldest church

One of the most ancient is the Ascension temple. Ekaterinburg is its location. The shrine was laid in the spring of 1770, and in September its consecration took place. It was a small wooden church, which in three decades had fallen into disrepair. The parishioners asked to build a stone church in a consecrated place, which was done in 1789.

The building was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded. Before the revolution there were 6 chapels in the temple. In 1926 the church was closed. Until 1991 there was a museum. But at the end of the twentieth century, it was returned to the church, and now there are services. Address: 11 Clara Zetkin Street.

St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

The temple of Alexander Nevsky (Yekaterinburg) can be found at the address: Green Grove, 1. It belongs to the Novo-Tikhvinsky Women's Monastery. Initially, he was assigned the status of the cathedral. It was laid in 1838. According to the architectural style refers to classicism. Construction was conducted for ten years.

There are three chapels in the temple, one of which contained cancer with the relics of 19 saints. After the revolution, the monastery was liquidated, and the shrine was closed and converted into a warehouse. The old cemetery around the church was demolished. In the early 90's the first floor was returned to the parishioners, and in 1994 the monastery began to operate.

The first post-revolutionary church

In 1996, on September 30, there was a significant event in the life of Orthodox believers in the Ural capital. On Mashinostroiteley Street, 4a, the first church since the revolution of the church was laid. It was the Church of the Nativity, Ekaterinburg which can be proud of. In January 1999, the grand opening and the first service were made.

In the main side-chapel, every believer can add to the cancer with pieces of the relics of forty saints, among them the Apostles Paul and Matthew, Tikhon Zadonsky, Optina Elders. Also here you can pray at the ancient icons or ask for intercession from Matrona Moskovskaya.

Now the arrival of this temple is the largest in the city. At the church, there is a society of nurses who help hospitals, homes for the elderly and the home of the child. Work is actively carried out within the walls of the church: there is a Sunday school for children and a youth club for teenagers. Everyone can try to learn church singing at specially organized courses.

Temple on the Seven Keys

The need to build a temple in the Sortirovochny microdistrict was imminent, when the population increased to 50,000. Two house churches no longer cope with the increased number of parishioners. The parish of the Vladimir Icon has existed for more than 14 years. Initially, it was founded in a boarding house for the elderly with the assistance of the director of this institution and with the blessing of the patriarch. Now the services are held in a new church at the address: 3 Shuvakishskaya Street.

The Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God (Yekaterinburg) was built from a cylindrical beam. It is crowned with five golden domes, the main one of which ascended to a height of 16 meters.

The new church is located in the village of Seven Keys, which is in the north-west of Yekaterinburg. By the present moment a whole complex of wooden buildings has been erected: a church, a belfry and a chapel. A well was drilled, from which, from a depth of 50 meters, a key with pure water is beating. The spring has been consecrated, and people from all over the city come for healing water.

The parishioners and the abbot are actively working, there are children's and adult Sunday schools, a charity society and a library, newspapers of spiritual content for children and adults are produced. The ministers go to the hospitals, boarding schools and a dispensary for tuberculosis patients.

New Temple

On Chkalov Street, 244, in the XXI century the temple of Vladimir was built. Ekaterinburg grows every year. As soon as the first high-rise buildings appeared in the vicinity, the question of building a church was raised. In July 2011, the consecration of the new house of God was held. The history of this temple has just begun. In the best traditions of the Yekaterinburg Orthodoxy, the "Relief Service" and the Sunday School operate where the children learn the basics of Christianity.

In the Ural capital there are many active Orthodox churches, but here they also respect representatives of other concessions. The temples of Yekaterinburg are diverse in architectural design, they have a different history. But each of them is a place where they come to pray, attach themselves to the shrines, get answers to the questions.

Most parishes conduct charitable work, guardianship of hospitals, boarding schools and nursing homes. Temples of Ekaterinburg conduct educational work both with the growing generation, and with adults.
