Static ip address. What is it for?

Why do I need a static ip address and how does it differ from the dynamic one? Otherwise it is also called a permanent ip-address, but how to make it, many people try to find out. What for? First, let's look at what it is.

We all know that when you connect to the Internet the computer is assigned a certain ip address, in practice, as a propiska for a person. This is the network address of the node in the network of computers built on the IP protocol. Communication with the Internet network obliges computers to have unique coordinates, because the information must be delivered to a specific person, so the individuality of these numbers is so important. The address is given to us as a set of decimal numbers, which are separated by dots. It looks something like 192.168.1.1. Both addresses do not have a difference in the display. Besides this, there is such a thing as masks of ip addresses. The main function is to expand the number of available addresses. Masks of ip addresses by default look like this: 255.255.255.0. Let's return to the addresses themselves.

A dynamic ip address for each computer is automatically issued as soon as it connects to the Internet for a limited period of time, usually this happens until the connection to the worldwide network is completed. This is the most common type of ip-addresses that all Internet users use. Providers give out almost all the dynamic addresses.

A static ip address is one that is registered by the user in the device settings or is assigned by the provider when connecting to the Internet for an unlimited time. When the computer is disconnected and reconnected to the network, the address is not changed, as is the case with the dynamic ip-address. The numbers do not change until you yourself do not want to. Due to this, such an address is also called the permanent ip address.

Who needs a static ip address and what are its advantages?

On the Internet there are services that require mandatory mandatory presence of the user is the permanent ip address. One of these services is the operation of the computer as a server. But why not dynamic? Let's consider an example.

Let's say that the installed public game server is actively used on your home computer. You have everything set up, a sea of players every day, everything is interesting and everyone is happy. And it's all so nice and beautiful that one of the players decided to go to you "on a visit" the next day and add the server to the "Favorites" tab. Given that each computer is given a personal address, and the server data is based on this, after resuming the session of the Internet connection, the address is automatically changed and the server will have to be searched again. Coordinates are irretrievably lost.

Today, there are many services that are responsible for monitoring game servers. They give enough detailed information to users: the name of the launched card, the name of the server and its status, the number of players playing, the city in which the server is located. If you add your server to such a system, there is a guarantee of a stable increase in attendance of players, and, consequently, the server's rating is increased. But such privileges are available only to those who possess such an indispensable function as a static ip address.

Most providers offer static address services. A permanent ip address can be provided at an additional cost to the main subscriber. In order to find out the cost, you should call the representative who connected you to the worldwide network. The price can be as incredibly low, and transcendently high. Advantages and disadvantages are now known, and you know better how this service may be necessary.
