DNS server is not responding. What to do? The simplest solutions and advice

Probably do not need to say that many Internet lovers often face the situation when, when trying to connect or access a resource, the system reports that the DNS server is not responding. What to do? "Windows" 8, 7 or 10, we take as an example, since such a problem arises precisely in these systems. And before we deal with the correction of this situation, let us consider several theoretical questions.

What is a DNS server and why is it needed?

So, what is a DNS server? If we say, so to speak, a simple human language, this is a means of correct and convenient redirection of requests from IP-addresses to the domain.

In fact, after all, it turns out that when you visit any page on the Internet, the user gets to the server that contains and has its own IP-address, not by entering a certain combination of numbers, but by entering the address with Latin symbols. This is the main purpose of this type of server. They are like interpreter requests.

But what about when the DNS server is not responding? What to do? 7, 8 and 10th versions of Windows, as a rule, automated remedies are not offered. Nevertheless, something can be done.

DNS server is not responding. What to do? Possible problems

So, what's the matter? First, it is worth noting that the problem that the DNS server is not responding (what to do with it will be said a little later) may not depend on the settings of the user's computer. Indeed, if such a situation is observed, it may very well be that some problems arose from the provider. Therefore, to begin with, you need to call and find out what the actual snag is.

However, it also happens that users, either by ignorance, or accidentally, and themselves change the basic parameters of connections. In addition, and some programs that require Internet access for correct operation, can change the configuration spontaneously. The same, by the way, applies to some varieties of viruses.

Alternatively, you can check the system with an antivirus scanner or even roll back to the previous state of the system when everything worked. But, as practice shows, there is little hope for this, although in some cases it helps.

DNS server is not responding. What to do on "Windows" 7 and higher? Diagnostics by system means

First of all, you should pay attention to the built-in Windows validation tools for connection (no difference, wired or wireless).

In the system tray, you can see the connection icon, and if you right-click on it, a menu appears in which you can select the troubleshooting section. The launched "Master" will conduct the check in several steps, constantly checking to see if the problem has disappeared. But, as a rule, such a test, alas, does not give anything. Therefore, we will have to act on our own.

Checking the BPS client activity

One of the possible reasons why the DNS server is not responding (what to do, now we will disassemble), most specialists tend to call not the settings, but the state of the DNS-client. It's something we need to check.

To do this, either log in to the computer administration section through the right-click menu on the icon, or use the services.msc command to directly access the services section. Here you need to find the appropriate component (DNS-client).

Right click the menu with a property line, where you should pay attention to the type of launch. It must be set to automatic. If the parameters are worth something else, they just need to be changed, after which it is desirable to reboot the system. By the way, the properties of the service can be accessed with an ordinary double click on its name.

Alternative configuration

Now let's look at one more example of a problem when the DNS server is not responding. What to do? For example, Rostelecom offers its own values and parameters for setting up access, but most providers use the system of automatic assignment of IP addresses, DNS server addresses and setting of other parameters. Therefore, when entering the properties section of the TCP / IPv4 protocol, the user will not see any numbers there.

If manual configuration is still provided, but the server does not respond, other parameters can be applied. So, for example, to use the DNS server Google, you can prescribe 8888 for the preferred DNS (one digit in each of the four fields), and for the alternative use 8844 using the same input scheme. In most cases, you do not need to reboot the system to enter the parameters.

Note: in some cases, it may be necessary to disable the use of IPv6, but such situations are extremely rare.

Finally, you can reset the server settings (restart, update the configuration), which requires four commands (without punctuation) on the command line running on behalf of the administrator:

  • Ipconfig / flushdns;
  • Ipconfig / registerdns;
  • Ipconfig / release;
  • Ipconfig / renew.

What other problems can there be?

That's basically, in fact, and all that concerns the problem that the DNS-server is not responding. What to do to correct the situation, it seems, is already clear. As for other possible failures, most of this problem can be related to social networks, which are simply blocked in employee offices. Sometimes problems arise with modems (usually they just need to be overloaded). Often blocking access to the same torrent trackers or sites with questionable or prohibited content occurs at the level of antivirus and firewall (here it should be checked from the settings). In the end, you can bypass the protection of the system even by using the most primitive anonymous proxy server on the Internet. Maybe you should reinstall the network adapter drivers. In general, there are many options.
