Spurge cypress - unpretentious perennial for your garden

Spurge cypress refers to the perennials of the family Euphorbia. It is a fairly large clan, in which there are over 7000 species and about 3000 genera. Most of this family prefers subtropics and tropics. Europe and Asia - the territory where grows in natural conditions spurge cypress. It quietly develops on sandy soils, on hills and slopes, and also in pine forests.

The name of the whole family speaks for itself. All its representatives, if damaged, excrete white milky juice, which is poisonous. And when working with a similar plant, it is better to use gloves. Euphorbia cypress (this clearly shows the photo) has erect stems with original densely laid needle-shaped leaves. They throughout the season change color from a yellowish tone to shades of blue, which gives them even more attractiveness.

In general, the bush of this plant forms such a loose and lush ball, something like juniper. In height, it reaches no more than 40 cm and refers to ground cover plants. From May to June, there appear small fragrant flowers of tender yellow color. They are like beads, scattered on a light green plate. And the flowering is repeated in the autumn.

Euphorbia cypress has ramified creeping roots, therefore it grows rather quickly, capturing a new territory. You can plant it in any soil. The landing site can be open or shaded, but it is better if it is a sunny place. In too shady places, it will produce many shoots, but its bloom will remain rather scarce.

You can multiply by dividing the bush, segments of rhizomes or seeds. The first and second option is used in early September, as well as in late April. Seeds in the open ground planted better in the fall. In principle, all representatives of this family can be called unpretentious, including spurge cypress, care for it needs minimal. Since all the milkweed originate from warm and arid areas, they have the property of accumulating moisture for future use. Therefore, they do not need constant watering. Do this only in the period of great drought. Still it is required to weed regularly and 2-3 times to feed with mineral fertilizers. And in late autumn you need not forget to cut already dried up shoots. In principle, this is all the care.

If we talk about diseases, the spurge cypresses most of all suffers from improper care, namely, from an excess of moisture. If you notice that the plants droop leaves, and then die off, then the soil is too much moisture. Especially often this is observed at low temperatures, when the excess of moisture rotates the roots, and the plant is affected by fungal diseases. Of wreckers, he can be harmed by whitefly and spider mites, although this happens rarely.

Since spurge cypress retains its decorative throughout the season, it is often used as a background, which is advantageously combined with the colors of other perennials. Landscape designers use it to create rock gardens and stony gardens. And its similarity with junipers allows it to organically combine with any representatives of coniferous plants. During flowering, the spurge cypress luxuriantly looks in a cut. And to get rid of the secretive juice, it's enough to dip the tips of the stems into hot water for a couple of minutes.
