Spruce (fir) in green construction
In the extensive list of coniferous plants used in gardening, one of the leading places is occupied by spruce. Rod Spruce belongs to the Pine family and includes about 50 species that grow in nature in Northern Europe, Central and North-East Asia, China and North America.
One of the widely used in green building species of this genus is spruce spruce. This beautiful slender tree, undemanding to the conditions of growth, frost-resistant and resistant to air pollution. According to the latest indicator, spruce spruce outnumbers most of the family, for which the greens of the whole world appreciate it.
In nature, the plant lives on river floodplains and mountain slopes mainly in the western regions of North America. It is successfully cultivated in the countries of Central Europe, in Russia and other regions with a temperate climate.
Spruce spruce is photophilic, therefore it is planted in open solar areas. The culture is quite demanding on soil fertility, but it does not tolerate too overfed substrates; Loves moisture, but does not tolerate waterlogging. The site for its planting should be well drained, level, with a low level of ground water.
Spruce spike responds well to pruning. In the first years of life, the tree can be formed by removing young buds in the spring and thus stimulating branching. On the site of each removed kidney, 2-3 new ones are formed, and as a result, in a few years it is possible to form a compact lush tree with a dense thick crown.
Despite the fact that this spruce is characterized by high resistance to air pollution, dust and smoke, in a city it needs such a procedure as a shower. In other words, the crown should be washed periodically with water. As a result, dust and dirt from the needles are washed away, the plant begins to "breathe", its appearance improves and the risk of pathogens decreases. Ideally, showering is conducted up to 5 times a month.
The plant is planted on the background of lawns, in solitary plantings and compositions with other coniferous and deciduous crops. It looks spectacular in combination with fir one-color, lying, juniper Cossack, Serbian spruce.
There are many cultivars of this type, designed for a wide variety of sizes - from city parks to local areas and front gardens. Especially popular is the spiny spike "Glauca" (sizaya), which differs from the main species in the bluish-green color of the needles, which does not change throughout the year. This is a beautiful plant for the city, which is well tolerated by smoke, dust, gassiness, drought, strong winds and frosts. Its branches in winter do not break down and do not deform under the weight of wet snow, and in the spring they do not suffer from sunburn. Many forms of this variety have been obtained, including globular ("Glauca Globosa"). This compact tree, in its adult state, reaches a height of 1 m and has a diameter of up to 1.5 m. It is grown on small plots, in containers and even on balconies. Very effectively looks a group of such trees on the ground floor.
Are widely used in green construction varieties "Argentea", "Hoopsii", "Montgomery", "Oldenburg" and many others. Compact and sprawling, dwarfish and huge, columned, globular, pyramidal, with greenish, silvery, bluish and even golden needles - they are all good in their own way. The cultivars ate so much barbed that you can perhaps decorate the garden using only these plants. And if only some 10 years ago, only owners of large plots could afford this tree because of its impressive size, now even a small piece of land in front of the city office can decorate the fir - a decorative culture that has been living near a man for almost a hundred years .
